County Deaths And Funerals Mrs. Whitmire Mary W. Whitmire, M. of Alien Ford Road, Brevard, died March 14 in a Brevard hospital after a brief illness A native of Madison County and a resident of Transylvania County for 40 years, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Minnie Proctor West. She was employed by Transylvania County Public School System at Brevard High School as a tescher ' and guidance counselor. She was a former employee of the Department of Public Welfare and was a member of Christian Women's Club and Hospital Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband, Marvin W. Whitmire; a daughter, Martha W. English of Newark, Dpi. ; a son, Joseph Wallin of Auburn, Ala. ; a step daughter, Kay Henninger of Chicago, 111.; and eight grand children. Services were held at 4 p.m. March 16 in Brevard First Baptist Church, of which she was a member. The Rev. Lin nie Farmer officiated. Burial was in Gillispie-Evergreen Cemetery. Robinson Thomas Sherdan Robinson, 68, of 806 Cherokee Ave., Black Mountain, died March 10 in a Black Mountain nurs ing home following an extend ed illness. A native of Yancey County and a resident of Madison County for most of his life, he was a resident of Black Moun tain for nine years, He was a son of the late Dolphus E. and Lucretia Robinson. Surviving are his wife, Mary Rathburn Robinson; five da ug hers, Frances Sith of California, Gladys B tankman of Baltimore, Md., Jo Padgett of Asheville, Jean Gay of Falls Church, Va., and Geneva Den ny of Black Mountan; two sons, Herschel Robinson of Black Mountain Russell Robinson of Marshall; four sisters, Bertha Cooper of Marion, Anne Mae Robinson and Ruth Griffin of Asheville and Elizabeth Johnson of Travelers Rest, S.C.; two brothers, G.B. and Leland Robinson of Mars Hill; and 14 grandchildren. Services were March 13 in Paint Gap Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Rev. Stanley Peek officiated. Burial was in Marshbanks Cemetery. Capps Funeral Home was in charge. Miss Ramsey Tennie Edna Ramsey, 78, of Route 7, Marshall, died March 13 in an Asheville Hospital following a long illness. A lifelong resident of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Allen Ramsey. Surviving are a sister, Laura Faulkner of Marshall; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at 2:30 p.m. March 15 in Red Hill Free Will Baptist Church, of which she was a member. The Rev. Talma dge Brown, the Rev. Jessie Rice and the Rev. Roy Waldroup officiated. Edward Barnett Edward Barnett, M, of Hot Springs died March 11 In a Greenville, Tenn, hospital following an extended t lines* A native of Madison County, he was a retired metal finisher for General Motors in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a son of the late Lattie and Elizabeth Chandler Barnett. Surviving are his wife, Bar bara Sawyer Barnett; a son, Archie Barnett of Greensboro; two daughers, Sue Gunter of Columbia Sta tion, Ohio and Christine Franklin of Marshall; two brothers, Clyde Barnett of Strongsville, Ohio and Charles O. Barnette of Oakakia, 111.; five siters, Stella Gahagan, Tresalee Ramsey and Meradith Payne of Marshall, Cordelia Harrison of Romney, W.Va., and Vina Thomas of Asheville; seven grand children and two great grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m. March 14 in the chapel of Bowman Funeral Home, Mar shall. The Rev. Andrew Grind staff, the Rev. Danny Little and the Rev. D.A. Worley of ficiated. Burial was in Scott Chandler Cemetery. Carleson Shelton Carleson Shelton, 55, of Route 3, Marshall died March 13 in Salisbury VA Medical Center following an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Madison County, he was a farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II. Surviving are his parents, Charles H. and Leta Haney Shelton of Marshall; two brothers, Winfred A. Shelton of Flag Pond, Tenn., and Lyle Shelton of Murray, Utah; a niece and a nephew. Services were held at 2 p.m. March 17 in the chapel of Bowman Funeral Home. The Rev. Bernie Jones officiated. Burial was in Sol Shelton Cemetery. Mrs. Hensley Delia Norton Hensley, 78, of Route 6, Marshall, died March 11 in an Asheville hospital after a long illness. A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Ervin and Malone Arlington Norton. She was the wife of Albert Hensley, who died in 1957. Surviving are five daughters, Zora Holland of Mars Hill, Ruby Lewis and Robbie Johnson of Marshall, Eula Blevins and Doris Bur rell of Weaverville; two sons, Ralph and Olen Hensley of Woodfin; two sisters, Flossie Lewis and Leitha Jenkins of Marshall; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m. March 13 in Ivy Church of God. The Rev. Champ Rice and the Rev. Kenneth Parker officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bowman Funeral Home was in charge. Adkins Jr. of Ruther fordton; three daughters, Lois Cannon of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Wanda Phippe of Asheboro and Louise Shepherd of Rutherfordton; two brothers, Hunry Adkins of Burnsville and Horace Adkins of Kingsport, Tenn. ; four sisters, Hester Adkins and Ida Peter son of Bumsville, Cora Hig gins of Johnson City, Tenn., and Gertie Phillips of Erwin, Tenn.; 26 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Crowe's Mortuary of Rutherfordton was in charge. Frank Ramsey Frank Ramsey, 88, of Mar shall died March 14 in an Augusta, Ga., hospital follow ing an extended illness. A native of Madison County, he was a retired carpenter and contractor. He was the son of the late James and Vina Sams Ramsey. Surviving are three daughters, Clara Bohn of Augusta, with whom he made his home, Vernie Ramsey of Marshall and Allie Cook of Asheville; a son, Leslie Ramsey of Knoxville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Services were held at 11 a.m. March 17 in the chapel of Bowman Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert E. Harris and the Rev. Warren Reece officiated. Burial was in Ramsey Cemetery. Edward Rich Edward "Edd" Rich, 54, of Dana died unexpectedly March 16 at his home. A native of Madison County, he was a construction worker and was the son of the late Samuel and Belle Mace Rich. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Har ding, Edith Pegg of Marshall, Judy Gentry of Alexander and Linda Puttich of Dana, with whom he had made his home for the past two years; a son, David Rich of Mars Hill; six sisters, Grace' Shook of Mar shall, Reba Tipton and Elizabeth Wyatt of Mars Hill, Agnes English of Murphy, Hettie Frady of Alexander and Jessie Stines of High Point; two brothers, Dennis Rich of Marshall and Carl Rich of High Point; and 12 grand children.
