Just A Woman's
Observations
By DOROTHY B. SHUPE
I hope to go to another reunion this
week end-the Marshall Class of 19M is
planning their twentieth one and I
hope to see lots of those characters
who put gray hairs in my head. I
visited Mrs. Eure in Asheville a few
minutes last week and she said she
was coming down, also Mrs. Ditmore
said she would be there. Some time
ago, I ran into Raymond Norton who
told me the affair was in the offing. I
saw Elizabeth Ramsey at the VA
hospital recently and she is looking
forward to making the event. I am
anxiously awaiting to see how far in
the cold, cruel world that this crowd
has come!
Among some I expect to see are
Mike Ledford, Patsy Hale, Shirley
Roberts, Clarence Davis, Ronnie
Gladden, Ronnie Haynie, Eddie
Henderson, Ronnie Johnson, Ralph
Loving, Tommy Nix, Willa Plem
mons, Lloyd Slagle, Ann Tilson,
Micky Tweed, Stanley Ward, Larry
West, and Edwin Wilde. That's just a
short list of a wide awake bunch of
students and 1 know many of them
are now presidents of big organiza
tions or running the country from
where ever they now live.
Our Bryan family reunion was a lot
of fun recently. We had around 80
decendants of my Grandfather and
Grandmother L. Marion and Lavada
Bryan. I had a big usual political
argument with Cousin Craig
Burnestte and I hope he will be wrong
when the election is over-as usual.
He usually calls me from Knoxville
and we fight out the election over the
phone, but this time, we hat it face to
face! All in fun, but I plan to win!
The reunion of the Walnut School
classes was fun too. Leta Reeves Led
ford was the oldest graduate there
and from my class there were on!)
four of us. Old faithful Florenct
McDevitt, Aubrey and Evoline
Reeves and myself. Next year will be
OUR big year because it wilt be our
50th anniversary! R. J. Plemmons
bad told me that he was going to call
on me for a few words and I sure was
glad that 1 didn't have to taik-I did
have a few jokes lined up to tell en
him, so I guess he might have been a
bit wary of that ! There were so many
there from so many places that I
hesitate to name them. Over all, I
guess there were about 250 former
students there and greeting them all
and having just a few minutes with
each was most delightful. We voted
for it to be an annual affair on the se
cond Saturday in August each year so
no one will have to be advised by
mail. Tell all your friends and 1
especially urge ALL members of the
class of 1935 to BE THERE next
year!
We are really having a time with
having to wait on the construction
between here and Marshall-but I'm
not complaining! I just look forward
to the day it will be completed and
we'll have a nice road. I'm sure many
of the peoople who live on the road
are getting their fill of dust-and my
car is getting more than its share, it
seems, but we'll just mark it all up to
progress! I know Mrs. English hated
to lo6e her two big trees that she and
Guy planted, but she said she would
take it like a soldier-and she did, bless
her heart!
