Nevertheless she has gradually lost the function of some of her limbs and is now unable to support her own weight. Over the years a special bond has developed between Shirley and the nursing staff at Madison Home Care. Nurses and aides visit the Martin home weekly to check for complica tions, look for skin problems resulting from immobility, and monitor her vital signs and range of motion. While the nurses are there primarily for medical care and consultation, an equally important responsibility is to provide psychological support for pa tients and their families. Brenda Pace, R.N., has visited the Martin family two or three times a month for the last six years. With tears in her eyes, she stated that the Martins have become like a second family to her. Over the years she has shared their ups and downs, their joys and sorrows. "We become very close to a lot of our patients," she said. "One of the hardest things about my job is' to see our patients deteriorate, to see them slip away. Sometimes we laugh together, and a lot of times we cry together ". Jeralene Gunter, Madison Home Care nursing aide, echoed Brenda's sentiments. "I have seen Shirley now twice a week for six years," she said."With all her problems, Shirley never fails to ask me about my children. She is always smiling, always brave. She is truly a special person. When the end comes, it will be like losing a member of my own family" In on*, way or another, we are all enriched by the extraordinary courage of the "Shir leys" of the world and by the unselfish com pas sion of those who serve them Thank you, Shirley Martin, for being an in spiration to us all. And thank you, Madison Home Care nurses, for car ? very special way. 4-H ers To Sell Christmas Trees Th* Madison County 4-H Exchange Club witt be selling locally grown fir and white pine Christinas Trees will go on sale Thursday and Friday afternoons, Nov. 29, 30, Dec. 6 and 7 and all day an Saturdays, Dec. 1 and I in the Northwestern Bank park letes Basic Army Private Jerry J. basic training N J. Experts say a strong opening puts an opponent on the defensive, an advantage which maintained promises victory. A careless, thoughtless opening invites defeat. Next Sunday we'll be starting a new week. Church bells remind us how millions of families begin their week. Strength comes with seeking the power and the promises of God. Then the ensuing days can be turned to spiritual and moral victory. Start your week with worship. It makes sense to choose the strongest opening!
