k* 1C ? ? " ? * Church News Benefit Singing Planned Shoal Hill Freewill Baptist Church will hold a singing on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Rev. Anthony Fox invites everyone to attend. Singing Set Saturday The Salvation Army Church of Sleepy Valley will be having a benefit singing on Saturday at 7 p.m. "The Pilgram Heirs" will be doing the singing for the church to raise money to pur chase a furnace to be installed in the church building. There will also be a hot dog sale going on during the day before the singing. For further information call Lt. Thomas Friddle at 622-3359 or come by Sleepy Valley Salvation Army. French Broad Baptist Group Offers Courses The French Broad Baptist Associa tion will offer two seminary extension college level courses beginning in February. Courses will be held on separate evenings - Mondays and Thursdays - so that students may have an oppor tunity to enroll in more than one course. Offered on Monday will be "Church Growth," an introduction to church growth principles and strategies as related to a church's sense of pur pose. The association calls the course "ideal for all church leaders." The course will be held on Monday evenings, Feb. 9 through April 13, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost per per son is $10, and per couple is $15. Jerry Freeman will teach the course at the French Broad Baptist Center. > "How To Understand The Bible," an introduction to the nature and pur pose of the Bible and how to unders tand it, will be offered on Thursdays, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 12 through April 16. The course will be taught by Sue Fitzgerald at Weaverville Baptist Church. The cost of the course is $15 per person, and $20 per couple. Participants in the course are ask ed to register on Feb. 9 and 12 at the location of the course. The cost covers the price of books, materials and operation expenses. The association makes no profit from the courses. Checks should be made payable to the" French Broad Baptist Associa tion. Registration will continue through Thursday, Feb. 26. Knisley of Mars Hill, has been named to the Universi ty of the South's dean's Hst for the fall semester. She achieved a grade point average of at least 3.625 on the four point scale during this past semester. The University of the South, often referred to as Sewanee, was founded in 1857 and is operated by M dioceses of the Episcopal Church in 12 southern states. The university is considered by many m one of the distinctive liberal arts institutions of higher learning in the nation with Just over 1,000 students from 40 states and 11 foreign countries. 3 From Area Make Dean's List Julia A. Pfaff, Kathryn L. San chagrin and Yancey L. Sanchagrin of Mars Hill were included in the fall term dean's list at Furman Universi ty, where they are sophomores. The dean's list is composed of full time undergraduate students who earn a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher on Furman's four-point system.
