Decoration Day Planned Decoration and memorial services will be held at the Lower English cemetery on Sunday beginning at 9:30 a.m. Fairview Cemetery Sets Homecoming Fairview Cemetery will hold homecoming services on June 14. Donations are needed to maintain the cemetery and to build a covered picnic area for use at homecoming. Send dona tions for either fund to Fairview Cemetery Fund, c/o Wachovia Bank and Trust Co., P.O. Box 397, Hot Springs, N.C. 28743. Walnut Cemetery Funds Sought The Walnut Cemetery is in need of donations to continue cemetery care. Residents of the Walnut community and per sons who have relatives buried in the cemetery may send donations each year to keep this project going. Checks should be made to Walnut Cemetery Fund and mailed to Mrs. Valerie Guthrie, Treasurer, 41 Academy Road, Marshall, N.C. 28753. Contributions are tax deductible. Paint Rock Decoration Day Set Decoration service is planned at Paint Rock Cemetery on Sunday begining with a covered dish dinner at 1 p.m. The Rev. Ernest Sawyer will conduct the service at 2 p.m. with special singing planned. Red Hill Baptist Drama Set Red Hill Free Will Baptist Church will present a program of Christian drama June 2 beginning at 7 p.m. featuring the Evangel Players from Nashville, Tenn. The Rev. Dave Aumiller, pastor, invites everyone to attend. Gahagan At Seminar June A. Gahagan of Hot Springs, a third-grade teacher at Marshall Primary School, recently par ticipated in a seminar at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching at Western Carolina University. Gahagan hold a bachelor's degree from Mars Hill College. The center is dedicated to the advancement of teaching as an art and a profession and is designed to provide outstan ding public school teachers oppor tunities to study advanced topics in the sciences, arts and humanities. John Jenkins John Everett Jenkins, 94, of Route 3 Mars Hill, died May 12 in a Madison County nursing home A lifelong resident of Madison County, he was a retired fanner and trucker and a member of Bald Creek Masonic Lodge No. 397 AF&AM He was a son of the late Elbert and Elizabeth Sams Jenkins. Surviving are his wife, Lucy Jenkins; a daughter, Jessie Whitt of Mars Hill; four sons. Jasper, Clay and Ed Jenkins, all of Mars Hill and the Rev. Eb. Jenkins of Weaverville; a stepdaughter, Mary Ruth Roberts of Mars Hill; two stepsons, Warren English of Weaverville and Wesley English of Stone Mountain, Ga.; two sisters, Bessie and Ellie Bradley of Marshall; three brothers, Goodson Jenkins of Marshall, Denver and Sam Jenkins of Greene County, Tenn; 21 grandchildren; and, 23 great grandchildren. Services were held last Thursday in Laurel Chapel Baptist Church, of which he was a member and deacon. The Revs. Glenn Carver and Joe Rice officiated. Burial was in Upper Laurel Cemetery with graveside rites by Bald Creek Masonic Lodge. Grandchildren served as pallbearers. John Walte was honorary pallbearer. Lula Mae Littrell Lula Mae Littrell, 57, of 87 Lookout Road, Woodfin, died May 12 in an Asheville hospital. combe County She attended Mount View Holiness Church. Surviving are her husband, Nor man Edward Littrell; three daughters, Glen da Brady of Mars Hill and Carolyn Griffin and Helen Hensley, both of Asheville; three sons, Marvin, Ronnie and Mike Lit trell, all of Asheville; two brothers, William Winston Fowler, of Marietta, Calif., and Luther Fowler of Chicago, 111.; seven grandchildren; and, a great-grandchild. Graveside services were held Fri day in Sluder Cemetery. The Rev. Horace Benson officiated. Huffman Infant Graveside services for the infant son of Jimmy and Sherry Huffman of Route 2 Marshall, who died May 12 in an Asheville hospital, were held last Thursday in Old Bull Creek Cemetery. The Revs. Clifford Cable and Jackie Collins officiated. Surviving, in addition to the parents, are the maternal grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Deroy Clark of Leicester; and, the paternal grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Huffman of Marshall Grindstaff and George Massey of ficiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bertha Jane Bishop Bertha Jane Bishop, 91, of 16 Elkin St., Asheville, died May 13 in an Asheville hospital. Election Supervisor Quits Sharon Ray Lewis has resigned as supervisor of the Madison County Board of Elections. The board was scheduled to meet Tuesday night to accept Lewis's resignation and to make nominations for her replacement. Lewis, when contacted Tuesday morning, said that there were no pro blems leading her to resign. "It was just my choice to resign," she said. Edna Mae Ramsey Edna Mae Ramsey, 72, of 481 Walnut Creek Road, Marshall, died May 12 in an Asheville hospital. A lifelong resident of Madison County and a daughter of the late An drew J. and Mary Ri*U? Chandler, she was the wife of Winston Ramsey, who died in 1971. Surviving are four sons, Ralph Ramsey of Marshall, Donald Ramsey of Greeneville, Tenn., Edward Ramsey of Mars Hili and Avery Ramsey of Asheville; two sisters, Stacy Franklin of Greeneville and Betty Franklin of Marshall; 10 grand children ; and, 13 great grandchildren.
