Pastures Baptist Retreat in Burn
sville. The Rev. Arthur Ammons con
ducted the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Kirs. Jim Ammons of Mars Hill.
The groom is the son of Juanita Fox
of Burnsville and the late Raymond
Edmond Sheperd.
The bride is employed at Memorial
Mission Hospital as a pharmacy
technician.
The groom is employed at Avon
dale Corporation in Burnsville
A reception was held immediately
following the ceremony.
After a wedding trip to Gatlinburg
the couple will reside in Burnsville.

The bride is the daughter of Mr.
' and Mrs. James Hardesty Sr. of
Weaverville.
The groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Blackwell, also of
Weaverville.

ried a bouquet of spring flowers,
roses and carnations.

A catered dinner reception was
held immediately following the
ceremony in the Hardesty home.
Both the bride and groom are high
school graduates and the groom is
employed at Stampco Metal Inc.
The couple will reside in Weaver
ville.

Marshall Students Win
History Project Awards
Marshall Elementary School
students won two honorable mentions
from the N.C. Literary & Historical
Association for their work on projects
on Madison County history.
The Blannerhasset Islanders, a
group of Marshall Elementary
students who presented a festival of
Madison history last fall, won
honorable mention in the Group
Literary divivision for "A Threshing
Machine in Madison County, N.C."
Eric Sams won honorable mention
in the Individual Arts division for
"North Carolina Quilt Heritage."
The awards were part of the Tar
Heel Junior Historian Program, now
in its 34th year.
More than 100 projects by elemen
tary, middle and high school
students, both individual and group
entries, were in competition for the
prizes, awarded during recent
ceremonies in Raleigh.
50th Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. William Handy Hipps celebrated their 50th wed
ding anniversary May 10 at a dinner reception given by their
children at Camarron Hall, 5841 South Telegraph, Taylor,
Mich. Mabel Roberts and William Handy Hipps were married
May 15, 1937, in Marshall by the late Rev. Canada Worley. Mr.
Hipps is the son of the late William Eli and Attie (Plemmons)
Hipps of Hot Springs. His wife is the daughter of the late
Robert B. and Nancy (Massey) Roberts of Marshall. Hie
Hipps' are the parents of Mrs. Larry (Delia) Ohanian of
Findlay, Ohio; and, Gary Hipps of Tipton, Mich. There are
also four grandchildren. Mr. Hipps is retired form Marathon
Oil Company and formerly of the Great Lakes Engineering
Works. His wife is retired from Wyandotte Hospital.

accented with pearls and appliques.
Her crytal organza cathedral train
was trimmed with ruffles. The white
lattice crown bridal hat was trimmed
with pearls, sequins and venise lace.
She carried a bouquet of white or
chids and roses on a white bible.
Matron of honor was Michelle Lem
monds, cousin of the bride, of Midway
Park. Maid of honor was Denise
McGalliard of Alexander. They wore
full length gowns of blue satin with
floral design and a ruffled neckline.
They carried fan bouquets of
sweetheart roses and daisies ac
cented with baby's breath.
Bridesmaids were Tammy
Kuykendall, cousin of the bride, of
Candler; Shelly Maddox of Asheville;
Katrina Worley of Marshall; and,
Darlene Swann, sister-in-law of the
groom, of Maple Hill. They wore floor
length gowns of peach satin with
floral design and ruffled neckline.
They carried fan bouquets of
sweetheart roses and daisies ac
cented with baby's breath.

Regina Gail Massie of Route 2 Hot
Springs received an associate degree
in secretarial science during gradua
tion exercises May 31 at Haywood
Technical College in Clyde.
She also qualified for the spring
quarter dean's list with a grade point
average of 3.5 or better.

and her aunt, Elaine Baldwin, all of
Marshall, assisted at the reception.

The groom's mother wore a blue
suit with matching accessories.
The bride is a 1985 graduate of
Madison fflgh School and a 1967
graduate of Asheville-Buncombe
Technical Collge where she studied
computer programming and data
processing. She is employed by
Eckerd Drugs in Asheville.
The groom is a 1981 graduate of
Madison ngh School and is employed
by Biltmore Press Inc. in Asheville.
The wedding was directed by Mrs.
Ardath Rice of Weaverville and
Melissa Kuydendall, cousin of the
bride, of Candler, kept the wedding
book.
After a wedding trip to Mrytle
Beach, the couple will reside in Mar
