Guy Perry Guy DeUne Perry, 32, of 103 Whit temore Branch Road, Barnanfeville, died Aug. 17 from injuria sustained in an automobile accident. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Willard H. and Julia Franks Rice. He was a machinist with Schwitzer Corp. Surviving are his adoptive parents. Robert M and Willie Jean Rice Perry of the home; four sisters, Nadine and Juilia Ann Perry, both of the home; Sherry Wheeler of Greer, S C., and Bonnie Oyer of Aahevilie; five brothers, Arlin Perry, Gary Rice and David Rice, all of Barnardsvilie, J.D. Rice of Weaverville and Paul Rice of Enka. Services were held last Thursday In Barnarsvilte Church of God, of which he was a member. The Revs. Clifton Edwards ?I Barman Tmtf ?f Church News Arlington Benefit Set A benefit singing for Maynard Arlington will be held at the old North Buncombe High School auditorium Friday beginn ing at 7:30 p.m. No admission will be charged but a free-will offering will be taken. Gospel Program To Begin A religious program entitled "The Gospel According to Jesus," written by Lawrence W. Porter, will be held Friday and Saturday beginning at 8 p.m. at 70 Lex on N. Lexington in Asheville. Admission is $5 and everyone is asked to bring a cushion. Ponders Chapel Services Set The North Buncombe Fellowship Union and Ponders Chapel Baptist Church will hold morning and evening worship ser vices at Ponders Chapel Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served immediately following the service. M in an Aabeville hospital A native and resident of Madison County for most of his life, he retired from the U.S. Maritime Service in it78 after 23 years of service. He was a son of the late Charlie L. and Matilda Price Miller. He was a member of Oak Hill Bap tist Church, French Broad Mason Lodge m AF&AM and Marsahll Eastern Star Chapter. Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Caldwell Miller; four daughters, Faye Parham and Elizabeth Miller, both of Aabeville, Linda Glenn of Arden and Bronda Allen of Cleburne, Texas; two brothers, C.L. Miller Jr. of Asheville and David Miller of Duluth, Ga. ; five sisters, Nola Lance of Enka, Juanita Stines, Violet Ben son and Gladys Davis, all of Asheville, and Frances Darwin of Charleston, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and, a great-granddaughter. Services were held Friday in the chapel of Bowman Funeral Home. Elizabeth Ray Elizabeth Mitchell Ray, 60, of Williams Branch Road. Barnard sville, was found dead Aug. 17 at her home. A native of Yancey County, ahe had lived in Buncombe County for the past 40 years. She was the wife of W. Ralph Ray, wtardied in 1M1 Surviving is a brother, Ed Mitchell of Burnsville. Services were held last Thursday in the chapel of West Funeral Home, Weaverville. The Rev. Charles English officiated. Burial was in Clark's Chapel Cemetery. Iva Walking Iva Amnions Watkins, 90, formerly of Weaverville, died Aug. 20 in a Winston-Salem nursing center. A native of Madison County and a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life, she was a former school teacher. She was a daughter of Baptist Association To Offer Courses The French Broad Baptist Associa tion will offer two seminary extension courses beginning in September. Courses will be held on separate evenings, Monday and Thursday, so that students may have an opportuni ty to enroll in both courses. Offered will be: ? "Mark" (NT 0171) - A study of Mark's gospel; a nine-week course beginning Sept. 14 from 7-9 p.m. Mon days. The cost is $22 ($27 per couple) . Sue Fitzgerald will be the teacher, and the course will be held at the Bap tist Center. ? 'Pastorial Ministries" (PM 0252) - A study of the life and work of the pastor in relation to the church's mis sion, with attention to the fulfilling of varied pastorial functions; a nine week course beginning Sept. 17 from 7-9 p.m. Thursdays. Burial was in West Memorial Park. Alvin Dockery Alvin Dockery, 83, of Olivette Road, Asheville, died Wednesday in an Asheville hospital. A native of Madison County, he was a son of the late Jackson and Hannah Roberts Dockery. He retired from Burlington Industries. Surviving are his wife, Bertha Ger trade Bailey Dockery; a daughter, Mrs. Paul Reece of Jackson, S.C.; a son, Larry Dockery of Albany, Ga.; two stepdaughters, Judy Warren of Asheville and Bernice Enlowe of Wimberly, Texas; two stepsons. Lowery Warren of Weaverville and Jerry Warren of Asheville ; a brother, Clinton Dockery of Marion ; 12 grand children ; and, 17 great grandchildren. Services were held Saturday in the chapel of Grace Funeral Home. The Revs. Howard Rogers and Robert Harris officiated. Burial was in New Liberty Baptist Church cemetery. Steve Wallin Steve Calvin Wallin, 66, of Cody toad, Marshall, died at his home Vug. 13. A lifelong resident of Madison bounty, he was a son of the late rhomas Marion and Anna Rice Vallin. He retired in 1982 from Con inental Trailways after 35 years of lervice. He was a member of Marshall "W ' ? Lions Club and French Broad Masonic Lodge No. at AFAAM surviving arc m? wiie, Marion Jones Wall in; a daughter, Diane Wallio of Clearwater, Fla.; and, a sister, Flora Wallin Griffin of Mar shall. Burial was in Heck Ck-eek Cemetery with French Broad Masonic Lodge conducting graveside rites. Clyde Justice Clyde Justice, 79, of 141 Moody Cove Road, Weaverville, died Friday. Graveside services were held Sun day in Penland Cemetery. Artie King Artie King, 77, of Oid Newfound Road, Leicester, died Friday. Services were held Sunday in Jones Valley Baptist Church. Paul Ed Silver Sr. Paul Ed Silver Sr., 83, of Route 3 Bakers vilie, the Kona community, died Friday in a Madison County nur sing home. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Calvin and Nora Presnell Silver and was retired from Lawson United Feldspar. He was the husband of the late Grace Buchanan, who died in 1986. Surviving are two sons, the Rev. Paul E. Silver Jr. of Weaverville and Harold Dean Silver of Spruce Pine; four grandchildren; and, one great grandchild. Services were held Wednesday in Kona Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Revs. Arthur Woody, Eugene Briggs and Garland Higgins officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Or. Dan*!
