Services were held last Wednesday
in Carmen Church of God, of which
she was a member. The Rev. MeMn
Shelton Jr. officiated. Burial waa in
Bell Cemetery in Unicoi, Tenn.
Andrew Jarvis Jr.
Andrew J. Jarvis Jr., 71, of
Chamblee, Ga , died Sept. 14 in an
Atlanta hospital.
He was a son of the late Andrew J.
Jarvis Sr. and Sally Metcalf Jarvis.
He was a veteran of World War II and
was a member of Chamblee Masonic

Homer C. Sprouse, 72, of Upper
Brush Creek Road, Fairview, died
Sept. 1< at his residence.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe
County, he was a former employee of
Hyman Young and Maiers
Greenhouses. He was a son of the late
Oscar and Acie Davis Sprouse.
Surviving are his wife, Emoline
Cole Sprouse; two daughters, Fuda
Davis of Mars Hill and Christine
Price of Marshall; a son, Mark
Sprouse of Fairview; a sister,
Thelma Sprouse of Weaverville; five
brothers, Claude, Howard and Ray

Ralph Sprouse of Asheville; and,

Brad Worley
Brad Lee Worley, 14, of Leicester,
died last Thursday.
A native of Buncombe County, he
was a son of Gary and Brenda Robin
son Worley of Leicester. He was a
ninth-grade student at Erwin High
School.
In addition to his parents, he is sur
vived by a sister, Mitai Worley of
Leicester; a brother, Gregg Worley
of Leicester; the paternal grand
parents, Ray and Alma Price Worley
of Leicester; and, the maternal
grandmother, Dorothy Robinson of
Leicester.
Services were held Sunday in the
chapel of Grace Funeral Home! The
Revs. Charles Phillips and Bill
Gillespie officiated. Burial was in
Paynes Chapel Cemetery.
Flavel Corn
Flavel Howard Corn, 79, of 14-A N.
Main St., Mars Hill, died Friday in an
Asbeville hospital.
A native of Madison County, he
retired from Mars Hill College and
was a member of Mars Hill Baptist
Church.
He was a son of the late Jesse and
Martha Hensley Corn and the hus
band of the late Gertrude Bradley
Corn.
Surviving are three daughters, Ann
Briggs of Mars Hill, Martha Clark of
Kingsport, Tenn., and Emily Cham
pion of Butner; two sisters, Beatrice
Bradley of Mars Hill and Pauline
Herron of Weaverville; a brother,
Wilton Corn of Mars Hill; six grand
children; and, a great-grandchild.
Services were held Sunday in the
chapel of Capps Funeral Home. The
Revs. Sue Fitzgerald and Jerry Jar
rell officiated. Burial wag in Mars
Hill Cemetery.

Claredon Road, Asheville, died Satur
day 'Wan Asheville hospital.
A native of Madison County, she
had lived in Buncombe County for the
past 40 years. She was a member of
Miller of Asheville; two
children; and, three great
Green Hills Cemetery. The Rev. An
drew Schramm officiated.
Edith Carter
Edith R. Carter, 71, of M Oteen
Church Road, Oteen, died Sunday in
an Asheville hospital.
A native of Madison County, abe
was a daughter of the late Charlie and
Linda Anderson Riddle. She retired
as a librarian from Asheville VA
Medical Center after 30 years of ser
vice.
She was a member of Oteen Baptist
Church and was the pianist at the
church for SO years.
Surviving are her husband,
Thomas Carter; two sons, Tommy
Carter of Waverly, Fla , and William
E. Carter of Oteen; and, six grand
children.
Services were held Tuesday in
Oteen Baptist Church. The Revs.
Barry Roberts and Gayle Brown of
ficiated. Burial was in Mountain View
Memorial Park.

St., Asheville, died Saturday.
He was formerly of Walnut.
Services were held Monday in the
chapel of Groce Funeral Home.

day in an Asheville hospital.
A native of Budapest, Hungary, be
attended universities in Budapest,
Berlin, Germany, and Rome, Italy.
He taught modern foreign language
at M on treat-Anderson College, War
ren Wilson College, Mars Hill College
and the University of North Carolina
at Asheville.
He was a member of Weaverville
Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan
Maney of Asheville and Katherine
Smith of Washington, D.C.; a son,
Alet Farkas of Weaverville; and, two
grandchildren.
