Many who are saved and ready to get into the Lord's work find themselves naturally seeking a good local congregation to join where they can begin to grow and serve. The Bible is the standard of authority for everything we do as God's children, including and especially where we go to worship our creator. Contained in the Bible we discover why Christ established the church and how it is to function. It's vital that we know these things as we make our search for that group of believers that really pleases our Lord. The Holy Spirit of God lives within us to serve as our guide. Ask the Lord to give you specific guidance to the church He wants you to join . . . where, under the leadership of a con cerned pastor, you can And a mean ingful place for fellowship, growth and service. The local congregation of which we become a member ought to be: ? 1. Christ-centered: (Col. 1:18-19) - The church magnifies the Lord Jesus in everything it does. Something is i wrong with the church that does not i present Jesus as, God in the flesh, i virgin-born, sinless, Son of God, who | is the only saviour for the sins of men. ? 2. Bible-centered: (1 Tim. < 3: 14-4:2) ? The Bible must be the sole I source of authority for everything the 1 church is and does The pastor must hold it in reverance as the inspired, ( infallible and inerrant word of the liv- c ing God, and preach it faithfully. The v Bible must be the plumb-line for c every aspect of the church's life. Don!f hesitate to ask a pastor tfhe 2 believes the Bible is the infallh>le ij word of God. ? ? 3. Evangelistic: (Acts 20:20) - c Many churches make very little ef- si TerrelV. Witberrite Chaplain's Corner fort to get the lost saved or the blacksliden restored back into fellowship with God. A strong em phasis on "soul winning" is a must, members are to be trained on the techniques of leading the lost person to know Jesus as saviour and Lord. ? 4. A Place to grow in grace: (1 Peter 2:1-3) ? The church must be a place where one can grow freely as a Christian, in knowledge, skills, understanding and service. Em phasis should be placed on truly becoming a "disciple" of Christ. ? 5. Mission-minded: (Acts 1:7-8) ? The church should have a vision for reaching the whole world for Jesus Christ. There must be that sense of urgency for reaching the lost in every [?rt of the country. ? 6. Harmonious: (1 Cor. 1: 10-13) - 3od cannot and will not bless the ocal congregation whore there is not ove among the brethern. ? 7. Separated: (1 John 2: 15-17) - Jod will not bless a "worldly" :hurch. Hie church is to be in the for Id; but the world is not to be in the hurch. ? >. Sound in doctrine: (11 Tim. :15-16) - Do not be misled into tbink lg you can find a "perfect" church rith a perfect pastor, the total hurch is a fellowship of believers triving to follow Jesus.
