The world’s consumption of American cotton for the last three
years amounted to 41,000,000 bales. Tlie American crops for the
same three years amounted to 37,786,000 bales. In these three years
of war the consumption of cotton has exceeded production by 8,214,
000 hales Consumption is expected to materially increase this year.
