Business Of Local
Court Improves
Fines And Cost Agaia Mount To
Sums la Eecoes of Tribunal's
Expense*
Moonshiao liquor is again on tho
job with it* old time vigor. After ly
ing in a passive state since last No
vember, it succeeded in sanding some
score* of old and now offenders a
gainst the peace and dignity of the
town to police court in the thirty day*
•tiding yaatotday. From these ' tha
town court collected considerably
more than $200 in costs and about
$100 in finoa.
This was the highest mark since
November, when $1,486.30 was col
lected in fines and costs and about
twenty men were sent te the town
ship road camp. December wat
tho dullest month of the year so far
as the court was concerned. Only
$S4«. was imposed against offenders
in the month of good cheer.
That tho town court is a profitable
Institution is shown by tha fact that
during the nine months ending Jan
uary 31, $6,326.06 was eollactad in
costs and $1,127.01 in flnea. Mean
time elghly-nlae men were sent to
the ruads and several women to jail
or Samareand. The cost of the court
to the town is $66.00 a month for tha
recorder. Its prosecuting attorney Is
the regular town legal adviser and •
draws no additional salary for his
extra service.
