Oral Yates Gives
Some Inside Facts
About Legislature
Haywood Man Believes That As
sembly Will Be In Session For
At Least Anothei Month
Oral I.. Yates, assistant sergeant -at-arms
in i.ie Senate of the General
Assembly, was in Waynesville for
the week-end. and during the course
of an interview with this paper made
the prediction th"t the legislature
would not adjourn before the 15th of
March and hardly later than April
first.
Mr. Yates is a close observer ,f
political affairs, and is watching
things m tlu- legislature with a keen
eye. He figures that the liijuor hill
will probably pass 'he upper house
by a vote of 'J7 to hut will meet
with certain defeat in the lower bouse
that is taking the present set up
as a standard to go by. Just what
will lie done by the sponsors of I lie
bill and opponents before the vote
rniu'ht change the ieult. lie reminded
the paper.
Mr. Yates reported that Senator
Ralph Ramsey was much improved
after his recent illness.
It seems that Rcpre.M-utative Hailey
has acquired for himself the reputa
tion of being one of the hardest
workers around the Capitol. Several
of his local bills have brought about
state-wide attention. The bill sub
stituting adult school buss drivers for
student drivers has been the source
o. much coninie.it in Raleigh, it was
learned.
It was Mr. Y lies" prediction thai
there would probably be a deadlock
in the assembly oyer the revenue bill.
