'.r MASTER THOMAS RAY GIVES BIRTHDAY PARTY On Wednesday afternoon Master Thomas Ray entertained a group of his young friends with a party in celebration of his fifth birthday. The affair was given at the home of his grandmother, Mrs. Charles E. Ray, and he was assisted in receiving his guests by his aunt, Miss Helen Ray. A motif of pink was noted in the party accessories. Master Ray was the recipient of many attractive toys. Suckers in unusual designs were pre sented the quests as favors. MRS. GORDON STARK EY GIVES LUNCHEON AT PALMER HOUSE Mrs. Gordon Starkey, of Canton, the former Miss Sarah Garrison, of VVaymesville honored M.rs. Roy Breece, of Los .Angeles, Cal., attrac tive visitor in Canton, with a lunch eon at the Palmer House, on Wednes day. Luncheon was served at one long table, which was centered by a bowl of pink ro.ses, with places mark ed by unique cards. Following the luncheon contract was enjoyed. The guest list includ ed, the members of the Young Ma tron's Bridge Club, of Canton, who are Mrs. Adric Stone, Mrs. Clyde II. Hney, Jr., Mrs. Richard Overton, Mrs. Fred Peden, Mrs. Albert ('line, Mrs. William Williamson, Jr., and the honor guest. MISS TILLIE ROTHA GIVES PARTY FOR BRIDE Miss Tillie Rotha entertained with a beautifully appointed luncheon on Friday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Rotha, in com pliment to Mrs. Fred Hutton, recent bride, who is being the center of many social affairs during her visit here to her parents. Pink rosea with other flowers were used in at tractive arrangements. Luncheon was served at small Ubles centered with vases of the roses. They attended the wedding of Mrs. Baucom's brother in Leaksville. From there they went to Danville, Va., where they were present for the graduation of their nephew, Eugene Langston. CHAPTER HAS JUNE MEETING ON FRIDAY Marked by unusual interest was the meeting of the Haywood Chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy, which met on Friday afternoon, with Mrs. Lton Killian and Mrs. . Fau ce'te Swift as associate hostess, at the home of the former. Garden flowers in brilliant colors, with roses predominating, adorned the rooms. Mrs. O. R. Martin, president, pre sided. The meeting was graced by the presence of Mrs. Preston Thomas, district leader, of Asheville, who ad dressed the organization on the work of the district, in relation to the state, and spoke with pride of the accom plishments of the local group. Another distinguished visitor of the .,(,,..,! w!. Mis K. L. M.Kee, oi Slva, a past president of the state division of the Daughters. She brought a message to the chapter. She expressed much pleasure over the ehetioii of Mis. Will A. Hyatt, mem ber i the Haywood chapter, to the office of first vice president of the stale work, and of her valuable ;ui Jition to the executive ooard. Reports of the officers and chair men consumed a greater portion oi the time alloted to business. .Mrs Hyatt and Mrs. Thomas gave an ac count of their recent visit to the Cher okee Reservation and of the plans for the unveiling and dedication of the U. D. C. marker to Col. Thomas and the Indians. They stated that each chapter president was being sent an invitation to attend the ceremonies. Plans for a benefit bridge party were formulated, and Mrs. N. M. Medford was appointed chairman, with Mrs. Eugene Alley, Jr., and Mrs. W. F. Swift, as members of the com mittee in charge. FRED HUTTON, RECENT BRIDE, HONORED WITH PARTY Honoring Mrs. Fred Hutton, the 'former Miss Edna Garrett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Noble Garrett, whose marriage took place in Danville, Va., last month, Miss Louise Frye enter tained with a contract party follow ed by a shower, on Wednesday after noon at the Palmer House.
