WEDDING OF HAYWOOD COUPLE
TAKES PLACE IN ASHEVILLE
Interest centers in the announce
ment of the marriage of Miss Frances
Pearle Justice, of Clyde, to Mr. Oral
Yatts, which took place on Friday
afternoon on July the 12th at the
home of Rev. J. R. Owen, pastor of
the French Broad Baptist church, in
Asheville.
The bride and groom entered the
room together. A simple ring cere
mony was used during which Mrs. S.
O. Tranthem, of Mar-s Hill, Softly
played, "My Wild Irish Rose."
Immediately following the cere
mony, Mr. and Mrs. Yates motored
to Raleigh, where the former has
accepted a position with the weights
and measures of the Department of
Agriculture.
The bride is the eldest daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Justice, of the
Crabtree section, of this county. On
both maternal and paternal sides, she
is connected with some of the oldest
and most prominent families of the
county. She is a graduate of the
Waynesville High School, Mars Hill
Junior College, and the Western
Carolina Teachers Coilge, where she
was a popular student. For the past
two years she has been a teacher in
the Bethel High School. She has
taken an active interest in politics,
now being vice president of the Young
Democlatic Club of Haywood county,
and vice chairman of the Young Dem
oeratic organization of the 11th Con
gressional district.
Mr. Yates is the son of the late D,
P. Yates and Mrs. Emma Brown
of Lake Junaluska, He received his
education at the Clyde High School
and the Western Carolina Teachers
College. After teaching two years in
the county, he has for the past sev
eral years been connected with the
clerical transportainn department of
the Southern Railway. At the last
session of the 'General' .Assembly Mr.
Yates served as assistant sergeant-at
arms in the .Senate. a
Mr. and Mrs. Yates will be at
home to their friends in Ralei.v,
where Mr. Yates will have headiiunr
ters, although his work will carry
him into all parts of the state.

NOUNCE MARRIAGE OF SISTE'R
Mr. and Mrs. S. 11. Stevenson an
nounce the. marriage of their sister
Miss Jeanettf Inman, of Waynesville,
and Greenville, S. C, to Mr. Milan
Eison, of Greenville, S. C.
The marriage took place in Green
ville, S. C, at the home of the groom,
on March the 28th, and was attended
by a small group of friends and rel
ative. The ceremony was performed
by Rev, R. F. Morris", of the Welcome
Stiei-t Methodist church, of Green
ville. The bride is the daughter, of Mr.
and .Mrs. S. A, Inman, of Greenville.
She is a graduate of the Waynesville
High .School -and at the time of her
marriage was a student nurse at the
General Hospital of Greenville. She
has made her home with her sister
and brother here for the past few
years.
The groom i.s the son of Mr. and
Mrs. James Eison, of Greenville, S.
C and i:i at present connected with
the Greenville Production Credit Asso
ciation. Mr. and Mrs. Eison arc now
at home to their friends on West
Washington street, Greenville.
HONORS HUSBAND'S BIRTHDAY
On Sunday Mrs. George Fulbright
entertained a number of friends and
relatives with a picnic lunch, at her
home at Lake Junaluska, in obser
vatue of the birthday anniversary
of her husband. Lunch was served
from a long table under the. trees on
the lawn. .

MISS LOIS HARROLD GIVES IN
FORMAL TEA FOR DUKE FAC
ULTY On" Wednesday afternoon Miss Lois
Harrold entertained with a delight
ful tea honoring members of the fac
ulty of the Duke Summer School, of
Lake Junaluska, For the occasion the
house was attractively arranged in
summer flowers, with yellow and blue
predominating.
Punch, sandwiches, nuts, and mints
were served from a beautifully ap
pointed table, covered with a lace
cloth. The punch bowl was decorated
in trailing ivy. Miss Harrold was as
sisted in receiving and serving by
Miss Mildred Crawford and Miss
Frances Robeson.
Among those calling were, Dr. and
Mrs. Paul Garber, Dr. and Mrs.
Hiram E. Myers, Dr. and Mrs.
Crum, Mr. and Mrs. James Keech,

WAYNESVILLE MAN MARRIES
GIRL FROM CLYDE
On Sunday evening at 8 o'clock at
the home of her parents in Clyde,
Miss Annette Chambers, was united
in marriage with Mr. Mack V. Miller,
of Waynesville. Rev. J. W. Tysinger,
pastor of the Methodist Episcopal
church, performed the ceremony. The
bride and groom entered together.
For the occasion the house was
thrown en suite and decorated in
quantities of . hydrangea, arid white
gladioli, combined with ferns. In the
living room where the vows were
taken, an improvised altar was ar
ranged before a group of windows,
which were decorated with greenery,
and he room was entirely lighted by
the glow of candles.
Prior to the ceremony Mrs. Fred
Calhoun, of Waynesville, sang, "Oh,
Promise Me." She also played the
wedding march.
The bride is the daughter ol Mr.
and Mrs. C. ('. Chambers and is at
present etiployeil at tne )t,nKa piaiu.
She wore a becoming white wool suit,
with blue accessories, and carried an
arm bouquet of hajtor lilies and
swainsotiia.
The groom is the son of Mr. 'and
Mrs. Edgar Miller, of Waynesville,
and holds a position with a Standard
Esso Station here.
After the ceremony, an informal
reception was held, following which
the bride and groom left by motor
for a trip to various points in South
Carolina. Upon their return they
will be at home to their friends in
Wavnesville.

On Friday afternoon, Miss Martha
Way and Miss Haseltine Swift, com
plimented Miss Mary Alice Charles
Craft, of Wilmington, guest of Miss
Emily Slier, with a contract party
at the home of the former. Vases of
gladioli adorned the rooms where the
games were enjoyed.
When the cards were put away
Miss Dolly Marsh, was found to hold
the top score and Miss Miriam Har
din was the winner of the low. Miss

a lovely remembrance of the occasion.

were presented attractive prizes, as

On Saturday afternoon Mrs. Eugene
Purcell, of St. Petersburg, entertain
ed with a contract party at the Hotel
Waynesville. The affair was given in
compliment to -Mrs, Bing McCrea, of
St. Petersburg, who is a guest at the
Wayside Lodge. Yellow and green
were combined, in pleasing effects as
the party motif.

ANNUAL OPENING DANCE AT
PIEDMONT LARGELY ATTENDED
The annual opening dance at the
Piedmont Hotel, which was given by
the managtment last night, was well
attended by many of the dancing set
fromi Waynesville and neighboring
towns.
As a special attraction of the even
ing, music was; furnished by the
Buccaneers' twelve piece orchestra,
featuring the vocal work of Sam
Richardson, WWNC radio artist. The
orchestra initiated the use of a com
pletely new sound equipment, the
first of its kind to be used here, and
was especially adapted to making
vocal numbers heard on crowded' dance
floors.
The guests were graciously received
by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hyatt, under
whose management the Piedmont con
tinues to be one of this section's pop
ular resort hotels.
