HAS MARCH MEETING On Friday afternoon the Doreas Bell Love Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held the March meeting with IMw, J. Howell Way, Mrs. J. Harden Howell, regent, pre sided. For the occasion the house was arranged in bowls of spring flowers. During the period devoted to busi ness reports were made of unusual interest. The regent, in the absence of Mrs. W. F. Swift, gave the report of the annual declamation contest, stating that there were eleven contest ants, with Frederi k Nichols winning the medal and David Stentz making the second place. It was announced that Miss Sarah Welch, who was sclecttd by the fac ulty and students of the Waynesville High School to represent the chapter in the state-wide contest for the Ruth Bryan Owen citizenship award, was , given honorable mention by the judges and will be the recipient of a citizen ship medal from the state organiza tion. Mrs. Thad Howell offered to buy one of the citizenship medals annually offered by the chapter to the high school titudents. Mis.s Lois Harrold was welcomed as a new member in the chapter. Mrs. Glenn Tweed, of Asheville, was introduce as the page from the chapter at the state confer-' t-nce. Mrs. S. H. Bushnell had the paper of the' afternoon, her subject being, "The Constitution of Today," in whi: h a his . tory of how Jhe "Constitution, had served tho American people was traced, with mav.y pertinent thoughts as to whether or not the document would continue to meet in full the needs of the present day problems. Mrs. R. I,. Provost reviewed the national magazine, reading in full the message of the president general. She also read ex'tr.wrtH. from the report f the national chairman of approve! schools, regarding the work at Cross nore. Mrs. h. , Oamti. alternate to the state conference, gave a most delight ful report of the meeting in Ashe ville, stating bhat it was considered one of. the befit ever .hold, 'and that it was graced .by the presence of the President General, Mrs. William H. Pecker, and other national ohVers Mrs. Howell, regent, who was one of the ollicial -hostesses, presented the financial renort from the conference, stating that all exen.es had been met with a ba-'a nee left over.
