Wagenfeld celebrated the nine teenth anniversary of their marriage, "which took place in Lynn, Mass. I he guest list included only members of the family, Miss Rachel Brown, of Sylva, and Mr. James Rose. Yellow and white were used throughout the house as a decorative note. The table in the dining room was covered with a handsome lace cloth, and centered by a crystal bowl with yellow flowers, flanked by yellow tapers, and the places were marked with old fashioned bouquets and bou- tonnierea. Mrs. Wagenfeld wore a gown of King's blue crepe, while Miss Cor Tinne Wagenfekl wore light blue chif fon with matching satin tTimmwgs. Mr. and Mrs. Wagenfeld and family came to Waynesville three years ago from Lynn, Mans., and have made many friends during their residence here. Mr. Wagenfeld is connected with the England-Walton Company. ANNOUNCE BIRTH OF SON Mr. and Mrs. Thomas B. Wood, of Edenton, announce the birth of a son on April 20, in Norfolk, Va. Mrs. Wood is the former Mrs. Grace Lee Harney. Mrs. Dayton Hunter, of Elizabeth ton, Tenn,, was the guest over the week-end of her sister, Mrs. John N. i Shoolbred. 1 MRS. JERRY COLKITT ENTER TAINS CONTRACT CLUB MONDAY On Monday afternoon, Mrs. Jerry Colkitt entertained the members of the Monday Afternoon Contract Club on the occasion of the regular meet ing The Ivousa was arranged in bowls of spring flowers. Hardin, Jr. MRS RUFUS SILER ATTENDS MEETING IN STATESVILLE Mrs. Rufus Siler left Monday for Statesville, where she is attending the Western North Carolina Missionary Conference of the Methodist churches of this section. Mrs. Siler is the pres ident of the Woman's Auxiliary of the First Methodist church. MR. AND MRS. LONG ATTEND RE CEPTION IN ASHEVILLE On Sunday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. James M. Long attended the recep tion given by Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Jarrett. The occasion marked their silver wedding anniversary. Mrs. Jarrett is the sister of Mr. Long. Mrs. R. E. RAY'S SONS WOMAN'S CLUB HOLDS APRIL MEETING The April meeting of the Woman's Club was held on Thursday afternoon, in the Welch Memorial building of the First Baptist church with Mrs. John LeRoy Davis, Mrs. Rufus H. Black well and Mrs. Jack Messer, as asso ciate hostesses, Mrs. S. P. Gay, pres ident, presided. For the occasion the auditorium was decorated in quan tities of spring flowers. Various matters were disposed of during the business session. A letter was read from Representative Wesley D. Disney, of Oklahoma, regarding the establishment of the Academy of Public Affairs in Washington, stating that the bill had recently been rein troduced and urged the club women to advise their representative of their wishes. Mrs. Jameg W. Killian, chairman of civics, stated that four extra men had been placed on the town force and a general clean up campaign was underway in the town. Mrs. H. W. Baucom distributed pro grams of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," which will be shown at the Park Theatre on April the 23rd, both afternoon and evening and sponsored by the club. Mrs. W. T. Lee, Jt., chairman of the Fashion Show, gave a report, stating that $40.00 had been cleared for the club. Mrs. Richard N. Barber, Jr., who represented the club as a delegate to the State Federation meeting, held in High Point last week, gave a most interesting report of the various meetings and social affairs. Mrs. Frank Ferguson, chairman of welfare, introduced Mr. Jack Messer, county superintendent of education, and district director of the League for Crippled Children, who explained the work of the group. He announced that with money realized from the sale of seals, that this section would be provided with a welfare worker. Mrs. Frank Ferguson was appointed chairman of the seal t;ale for the Wo man's Club. At this time Mr. Charles E, Ray, president of the Chamber of Com merce, spoke on the urgent need of Waynesville at this stage of its growth to have a definite city plan ning program-that in the long run would be more satisfactory and cheap er for the town. Following Mr. Ray's talk, Mrs. I,awrence Green, accompanied by Mrs. Evander Preston, sang, "A Prayer Perfect," by Oley Speaks. Mrs. H. VV. Baucom had the paper of the afternoon, and she gave a moist illuminating review of "Peter Ibbet- son, by DuMaurier. The joint meeting of the Woman's Club and the Community Club, which will be held on Wednesday was an nounced by the president, who urged all members to attend. BANQUET TO BE HELD FOR BAP TIST GROUP ON TUESDAY The regular quarterly meeting of the Young Woman's Auxiliaries of the Haywood County Baptist Associa. tion, will be held on next Tuesday evening in the banquet hall of the Welch Memorial Sunday school build ing of the Baptist church. Guest speakers of the occasion will be Muss Mary Currin, leader of the young people of the state, and Miss Pearl Bourne, isoUthwide leader of the group. Dinner will be served promptly at seven o'clock, and every young woman in the Baptist churches of the county are urged to attend. Mr. Bob Wood ward, of Columbia, S. C, is spending several days as the guest of his father, Mr. H. W. Wood ward, at the Adger House. Mr; and Mrs. John L. Davis were the guests of friends in Knoxville, Tenn., over the week-end. Friends in town will -be glad to learn that Mrs. C. E. Hamilton, Jr., of Philadelphia, who has spent some time in Waynesville, i improving af ter a "critical illness. AN- ROTARY CLUB OBSERVES NUAL LADIES NIGHT The outstanding social event of the week was the annual Ladies Night, which was tendered Rotary Anns by the local Rotary Club, on last Friday night. The affair was given in the banquet hall of the Welch Memorial Sunday school building, of the First Baptist church. For the occasion the spacious room was elaborately decor ated in spring flowers, with the colors of purple and gold, of the club, much in evidence. The windows were filled with sprays of apple blossoms, and the large U shaped table, at which the fifty-eight guests were seated, was arranged at intervals, with bowls of yellow spring flowers, while the ceiling of the room was draped in purple and gold. Mr. W. C. Russ, president, presided at the beginning of the evening, af ter which he turned the gavel over to Dr. S. P. Gay, program chairman, and his committee, composed of Dr. Robert H. Stretcher and Mr. Ralph Prevost. The committee had charge of the program of amusements of the occasion. Many clever and laughter provok ing games were enjoyed with several unique contests. In the guessing con test, Mre. D. Doyle Alley was the winner. In the amateur hour staged Mr. J. Wilford Ray, came out the winner. As favors the guests of honor were presented with attractive three com partment compacts, which were en graved with the Rotary emblem. As an added feature to the evening, as sembly leirqging, with Mr. Evander Preston, as director, and Miss Mar garet Walker, as accompanist, was enjoyed. Dr. Robert H. Stretcher, vice pres ident, and past president, in behalf of the organization, presented Mr, W. C Kuss, who will retire Irom tne office of president in July, with a handsome past president's pin. In his presentation Dr. Stretcher paid a high tribute to the splendid work done under the leadership of Air Russ. (H. W. G.) HOUSE PARTY GIVEN AT CAMP OVER WEEK-END Miss Mary and Miss Catherine Palmer, young daughters of Mr. anil Mrs. James Palmer, entertained a group of their friends with a week end house party at their camp on Plott's Creek. Mrs. Claude Medford chaperoned the group. Those enjoy ing the affair were Miss Louise Mears, -Miss.- Lucy Medford, MLss Mary Ann Turner, Miss Lucilo Al dridge, Miss Catherine Boyd, and Miss Josephine Nelson. METHODIST CIRCLE NUMBER THREE TO MEET Circle Number three of the Meth odist church will meet Tuesday af ternoon, April 28, with Mrs. Grady Boyd at three o'clock. Mrs. John M. Queen will have charge of the devo tional. The same circle will serve dinner at the W. W. N. C, Cafe Saturday night, beginning at six o'clock. The public is invited, and the proceeds will be used for the work of the circle Miss Eva Leatherwood and Miss Ila Greene spent the week-end as the guests of friends in Ilcnderson- ville. Mr. Wallace Blackwell and a party of friends were among those motor ing to Tryon last week for the horse show. Rev. R. S. Truesdale was called to Columbia, S. C, on Wednesday on account of the death of a kinsman. Rev. and Mrs. R. S, Truesdale have as their guests, Mrs. J. B. Penland, of Columbia, S. C, and Mrs. Thomas Calhoun and two children, Isabella and Thomas, of Beaufort, S. C. Judge Felix E. Alley, who is hold ing court in Franklin, spent the week end in town with his family.
