ATTKXDED LUNCHEON IN ASHE

Howell attended a luncheon tfiven in
Asheville on Wednesday by the Ed
ward Buncombe chapter of the
Daughters of the American Revolu
tion. The party was given in the
private dining room of Grove Park
Inn.
The affair was given in honor of
Mrs. Henry Roberts, Jr., of Indian
apolis, the newly elected president
general, of the National society of
the Uaughters of the American Rev
olution, who is visiting Mrs. VV. H.
Belk, of Charlotte, at her summer
home at Montreal, one of the vice
president generals of the National
society.
A number of state officials and statrf
chairmen were among the guests.
Following the luncheon Mrs. Roberts
made a talk. Mrs. Abel is regent (of
the Dot-as Bell Love chapter, and
Mrs. Howell is state chairman of
Indian work.
Mrs. Ralph Pressley and small son.
Gene, of Asueville, visited her moth
er, Mrs. Addie Proffitt and relatives
over the week-end.
Eli Mt-Gee, Sea Unit, U. S. Naval
Training Station, has returned to his
duties at Newport, li. I., after a visit
to his mother, Mrs. Eli McGeo. In
September young McGee, who is mak
ing a splendid record, will be trans
ferred to San Diego, Cal., where he
will enter the Ordinance School, af
ter passing his examinations, with
high marks.
Mr. and Mrs. K. ,J. Robeson have
as their guests, Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Robeson, Jr., of Newport News, Va.,
three daughters', Ruth Curtis,

and Maltha.
Mr. and Mrs. I!. S. Marsh and
(laughter. Miss Doilee Marsli, and
their son, Buddy, leave this morn
ing for Rochester, N. V. They have
been called North on account of the
death' of a sister of Mrs. Marsh.

Mrs, Cora Hargrove, of Paint Rock,
Texas and her daughter, Mrs. Dale
Campbell, and two small daughters,
of Sweet Water, Texas, returned to
their homes last week after a two
weeks visit in the county. While
here they were the guests of Mr. and
Mrs. J. E. Massif and Mr. and Mrs.
Weaver Cathey, of Pigeon, and other
relatives in the Pigeon section.

To Wed Mr. C. K. Weatherby
The eiigageiiu-nt and approaching
marriage of Miss Mary Emma Massie
to Carleton K. Weatherby was an
nounced Friday at a luncheon given
by Mrs. Bonner, sister, and .Mrs.
Hugh Massie, sister-in-law -of the
honoree.
The affair was held at the home of
Mrs. Massie. Attractive .--'miniature
brides and bridegrooms placed on the
tables were used as a means of an
nouncing the betrothal. The house
was decorated with summer flowers,
and a color scheme of led and white
was observed.
Following luncheon contract bridg
was enjoyed and prizes were given to
the high and low score winners. An
attractive gift was presented to Miss
Massie.

ter of Mrs. T. N. Massie and the late

tended the Waynesville schools and
was graduated from Greensboro col
lege, Greensboro, 'and is a member of
the faculty of the Waynesville high
school. .
Mr. Weatherby is the son Of Mrs.
C. E. Weatherby, of Faison. He was
graduated from the Faison schools
and Duke University, Durham. He
is principal and athletic di
rector of the Wayiiesville high school.
He is a member of the Pi Kappa Phi
traternity.
The wedding will take place at the
Methodist church of Waynesville, Au
gust 18 at .10 o'clock in the morning.
