placed about the rooms. When the

.low score prize. Miss Massie, honor

off the spring, who was before her
marriage, Miss Marguerite Massie,

MLSS TILLIE ROTHA GIVES
LUNCHEON FOR BRIDE
Miss Tillie Rotha was hostess on
Thursday of a beautifully appointed
luncheon honoring Miss Mary Emma
Massie bride-elect of this week. The
guests arrived at 11 o'clock and en
joyed several progressions of con
tract and at noon luncheon was serv
ed. The small tables were centered
with arrangements of mixed flowers
matching those placed about the
rooms.
When the scores were added Mrs.
Hugh Massie was the holder of the
top score, and Miss Mary Stringfield
held the second high. Both were pre
sented attractive prizes, as was . the
honor guest.
Making up the tables for contract
were: Miss Massie, Miss Babbie Way,
Miss Hester Anne Withers, Mrs.
John M. Queen, Jr., Miss Mary
Stringfield, Mrs. Robert H. Stretcher,
Mrs. Hugh Massie, Mrs. T. N. Massie,
Jr., of Sylva, Mrs. C. J. Reece, Mrs.
C. C. White, Miss Fannie Pearl Fel
met, and Miss Alta Walker, of Can
ton. Joining the guests at the luncheon
hour were: Mrs. Bonner Ray, Mrs.
T. N'. Massie, Mrs. Roy Parkman, and
Mrs. W. T. Shelton.
The hostess was assisted by her
sister. Miss Billie Rotha and Mrs,
Herbert Braren in receiving and serv
ing the guests.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Robeson and
children, who have been visiting the
former's parents, have returned to
their home in Newport News, Va.
Miss Anne Rowe, district super
visor of the Western District of
North "Carolina home demonstration
clubs, was a guest at the Waynes
ville Country Club, 'while in town this
week. Miss Rowe took part oft the
program give during the annual
farm tour.

In a ceremony characterized by
impressiveness and simplicity, Miss
Mary Emma Massie and Carleton I
Eddy Weatherby, of Waynesville and
Faison, were united in marriage,'
this morning at ten o'clock in the First
Methodist church. The Rev. James
G. Huggin, Jr., pastor of the church,
pronounced the vows, using the ring
service.
Floor baskets of gladioli, hydran
gea and Queen Anne's lace, with
greenery, were used lo . decorate the
church, forming a graceful and beau
tiful setting for the wedding.
Prior to the ceremony, Mrs. W. L.
Matney, organist of the church, ren
dered a program of nuptial music
that included "Serenade," by Schub
ert, "Traumeri," by Schumann, and
"Andantino," in D. Flat, by Edwin
H. Lamare. Two vocal numbers,
"I Love You truly," by Carrie
Jacobs Bond and "At Dawning," by
IJnai les Wakefield Cadman, were
sung by Ralph Sams, of Spartanburg,
accompanied by Mrs. Matney.
The Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin
by Wagner, was used as the proces
sional and the wedding march from
Mendelssohn was played for the re
cessional. During the ceremony Mr.,.
Matney softly rendered "To a Wild
Rose," by Edward McDowell.
The bride was given in marriage
by her oldest brother, James K,
Massie. She wore a smart suit in
brown sheer wool, an advanced full
model. The neck of the blouse was
high and worn with an old gold orna
ment. The coat was trimmed down
the front with bands of skunk. Her
hat was of brown felt, her acces
sories were in ; matching shades of
brown. She carried an arm bouquet
of yellow roses, snap dragons, and
gypsophelia.
Mrs. Roy Parkman, sister of the
bride, was matron of honor. She
wore a becoming frock of flat crepe
in boy blue, a fall model, fashioned on
princess lines, trimmed in self-cov-vered
buttons, and on one shoulder
a tlower of blue crepe and gold cloth
combined. Her accessories were in
black, and she carried an arm bounuet
of mixed garden Mowers, harmonizing
with the blue of her dress.
Master Jetf Reece, young son of
.Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Reeces, and neph
ew of the bride, in a white suit, serv
ed as ring bearer and carried the ring
in the heart of a rose,
Mr. Weatherby had as his best man,
M. H. Bowles. Hugh Massie and
Harold Massie, brothels of the bride,
acted as ushers.
The bride is the youngest daughter
of Mrs. T. N. Massie and the late
Thomas Newton Massie, of Waynes
ville. She attended the Waynesville
schools, and after graduating she en
tered the Greensboro College, from
which she graduated. Since leaving
college she has been a member of the
Waynesville High school faculty.
Following the announcement of en
gagement and approaching marriage
she has been extensively entertained.
The groom is the son of Mrs. C.
E. Weatheiby and the late Carleton
E. Weatherby, of Faison, N. C. He
was graduated from the Faison
schools, and later from Duke Univer
sity, where he was a member of the
Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. Mr.
Weatherby is principal and athletic
director of the Waynesville Township
High School.
Immediately following the cere
mony Mr. and Mrs. Weatherby left
for a wedding trip. L'pon their re
turn next week they will be at home
in the Kirkpatrick apartments.

BRIDE TENDERED BREAKFAST
SATURDAY MORNING
Mrs. C. C. White was hostess of
a breakfast on Saturday morning hon
oring Miss Mary Emma Massie, bride
of the week. For the occasion bowls
of mixed flowers adorned the rooms.
At the small tables at which the
guests were served small vases of
roses were used.
The guests arrived at ten o'clock,
and following the serving of break
fast several progressions of contract
were enjoyed. When the cards were
put away Mrs. Roy Parkman held
the top score, and Mrs. Josephine
Coman Ferguson was the winner of
the second high. The bride-elect
was also presented an attractive gift.

Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Reece and Mr.
and Mrs. Guy Massie entertained last
night with a dinner party compli
menting their sister. Miss Mary
Emma Massie and Carleton E. Weath
erby, whose marriage was solemnized
this morning at 10 o'clock. The guest
list was confined to the bridal party
and the members of the two families.
The bride and groom and their at
tendants were seated at one large
table, while the others were seated at
small tables. The bridal table was
centered with a large wedding cake
decorated in the bridal motif, topped
with a miniature bride and groom.
