ranging from $1.25 to $6 plus taxes
and upkeep. Or, he may purchase
tho property outright, obtaining
financing wherever he chooses, the
two years' payment being applied on
the purchase price Mr. Pedersen
sells for $1,000 cash, $1,500 on time
payments.
He built 25 houses of this type in
1937 and 30 this year.
It all started one bleak afternoon
when Mr. and Mrs. Pedersen stood
looking at some oilcloth, wondering
whether to spend their last 45 cents
on it or supper. They finally bought
the oilcloth and' put Mr. Pedersen's
idea that oilcloth would make excel-j
lent curtain tiebacks to work. They!
made up a supply, sold them to neigh
bors, and were back in a few hours to
a good supper.
Soon they were soiling tiebacks by
the thousands. :
Mr. Pedersen bought a 45-acre farm
near Racine, found it city man didn't
make such a good farmer, and de
cided to sub-divide and go into Un
real estate business,
Mr. Pedersen saw quickly that lot
buyers aren't successful in building
their own houses, so he began erecting
plain but durable houses for sale.
