Mrs. Joiui K. Boone was compli
mented w'.'.h a beautiful appointed
luncheon on Saturday when her
daughter, "li s. Rufus Silor, assembled
a group of her friends. The occasion
marked the eightieth birthday anni
versary of the honor guest. Mrs.
. Siler was assisted by her sister, Mrs.
Hugh Miis-de in receiving.

Mrs. Ruf lis L. Allen was hostess of
a breakfast at her home here on
Saturday in compliment to the mem
bers of the Asheville chapter of the
National League of Pen Women of
America, of which she ij an active
member.
The house was arranged with bowls

table in the dining room was covered
with a handsome lace cloth over yel
low satin and adorned with a silver
bowl of yellow chrysanthemums. The
smaller tables were similarly appoint
ed. Following the serving of breakfast
the members held a brief business
session, after which the program was
given. Each guest read excerpts
from some of her work.
Announcement was made that the
next meeting would be held on the
third Saturday in December with Miss
Elizabeth J. Moore, as hostess, at her
home in Asheville. Each member
would be expected to read some or
iginal contribution about Christmas.

Mr. Colburn was introduced by
Mrs. William Hannah, who told of the
many interests of the speaker, stat
ing that he had one of the largest
stamp collections in the South, an
unusual number of valuable Indian
relics, and a very noteworthy col
lection of minerals.
Mr. Colburn discussed the minerals
of North Carolina, illustrating his
remarks from time to time with rare
specimens from his collection. He
spoke of the discovery of gold in the
state. He stated that rubies were
first mined here and then in Burma.
He told of the rare gem hiddenite,
which is found only in North Car
olina. Be displayed specimens of kunzite,
golden beryl, acquamarine, emerald,
rutile, amethyst, zircon, crystal
quartz, and rhodolite, all found in
North Carolina. Mr. Colburn said he
had been asked to sell his collection
of native stones and he felt they
should kept in the state.
During the brief business session
a Christmas message was read from
the National Federation officials urg
ing that the members use living
Christmas trees this year.

the parsonage of Long's Chapel at
Lake Junaluska, on Saturday even
ing, November 19th, at seven thirty
o'clock, in the presence of a small
group of intimate friends and mem
bers of the family. The pastor, the
Rev. John E. Carper, officiated.
For the occasion the living room
of the parsonage was arranged in
quantities of chrysanthemums and
greenery, with lighted tapers placed
at intervals about the room.
The bride and groom entered the
room together. The bride wore a
becoming tailored suit of teal blue
wool, with accessories of spice brown.
He flowers were a corsage of sweet
heart roses and sweetpcas.
Mrs. Moore Was educated in the
Clyde schools and the Biltmore Jun
ior College, of Asheville,
The groom is the son of Mr, nd
Mrs. II. C. Moore, of Hayesville. For
the past seven years he has been re
siding in Waynesville, where he has
been connected with the Waynesville
Candy Company.
After a wedding trip to Carolina
Beach and various points in Georgia,
Mr and Mrs. Moore will return to
Waynesville, and will make their home
in the C'levewill apartments.
