Mr. Gordon Kinsland has announced
the marriage of his daughter, Miss
Mattie Maude Kinsland, to John
Robert Jeffers, Jr. The wedding was
solemnized at 8 o'clock in the even
ing of Saturday, May the 13th, at the
Cellevue Baptist church, in Memphis,
Tetin., with the Rev. R. G. Lee of
ficiating. Miss Kinsland is a native of this j
county. She was educated in the j
local school, and was a member of
the 1!:;) class at Mars Hill College.
She is also a graduate of the Baptist
Memorial Hospital School of Nurs
ing, of Memphis', where she has
spent the past several years engaged
in nursing.
The gloom is from Dardenelle,
Ark., and is now Jocated in Memphis,
where he holds a position with the
Missouri Pacific Railway.
The couple will make their home
in Memphis, and will reside at HIS
Cossitt Place, of that city.

of her parents, in observance of the
fourth birthday anniversary. A

SQUARE DANCE TONIGHT
The ways and meuns committee of
the Woman's Club will give their

Dale Stentz will have a "covered
dish" supper tomorrow night. The

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Corrigun, of
New York City, who have been guests
of the latter's grandmother, Mrs. P.
L. Turbyfill, returned home this week.
They were accompanied by their
Cousin, Eugenia Martin, young
daughter of Mr, and Mrs. O. R.
Martin, who will 'spend several weeks
with them.
Mrs. Lyle Ormsbee, the former
Miss Ella Ansley, left Tuesday for
Chicago, where she will join her hus
band, and they will go to San Fran -tisco
to attend a meeting of the
Lions Club. Mrs. Ormsbee lias been
the guest of her aunt, Mrs. J. F. De

Among many honorary degrees granted at colleges throughout the
United States this June were those presented at Beaver college,
Jenkintown, Pa, to Admiral Richard E. Byrd, the explorer, and to
Ruth Rowland Nichols, pioneer woman flyer and lecturer. Byrd
was given a degree of doctor of fortitude and faith In recognition of
his heroic explorations despite sickness at Little America. At the
right is Dr. James Elliott Mooney, acting president of the college.

night in the Waynesville Armory.
There will be tuneful mountain music
and experienced callers to be in charge
of the figures.

AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY
HELD MEETING TUESDAY
The Haywood Post number 47 unit
of the American Legion Auxiliary,
met Tuesday evening in their rooms
at the Legion home, with the presi
dent, Mrs. J. Harden Howell, pre
siding. The usual ritualistic service opened
the meeting followed by a business
session. Various reports were given,
including that of the Poppy Day
sale.. Plans were made to have a
booth at the annual Labor Day cele
bration in September.
The nominating committee sub
mitted tihe following report which
vas accepted: president, Mrs. J.
Harden Howell, first vice president,
Mrs. h. B. Camp, second vice presi
dent, Mrs. Hurst Burgin, secretary,
Mrs. J. Colvin Brown, treasurer,
Mrs. M. G. Green, chaplain, Mrs. T
L. Bvamlett, and sergeant-at-arms,
Miss Ida Jean Brown.
During the joint social hour with
the Legion, Mrs. Frank Compton and
