Stewards in the Kingdom
When Jesus left the temple at Jem-
salem. His disciples wanted to show Him
the buildings, but He said. "See ye not

o STEWARDS IN
By NEWMAN CAMPBELL
(The International Uniform Les
son on the above topic for Feb. 25
is Matthew 24, 25, the Golden Text
being Matthew 25:21, "Well done,
good and faithful servant.")
STEWARDS in the kingdom is
the subject of today's lesson. How,
in other words, should we live and
act during our lives so that we
can be sure we are worthy to be
classed among the righteous when
the Lord comes again in glory.
You will remember that at the
close of the last lesson Jesus wept
over Jerusalem, prophesying its
ruin and mourning that its people
would not accept His message. In
the beginning of today's lesson
Jasus and His disciples went out
of the temple, and in spite of all
Jesus had told them of things to
come, they wanted to show Him
the various buildings and have
Him admire them. Jesus reproved
them saying, "See ye not all these
things? verily I say unto you,
There shall not be left one etone
upon another, that shall not be
thrown down."
The disciples were curious about
these sayings, and when He sat
upon the Mount of Olives, from
which He had a fine view of Jeru
salem, they came to Him and
asked Him privately, "Tell Us
when shall these things be? and
what shall be the sign of Thy com
ing, and of the end of the world?"
Jesus then told them of many
things that would happen fam
ines, pestilences, wars. Many false
prophets would appear, and many
would believe these, but His true
followers would not be deceived,
but would go on steadfastly doing
their duty and waiting until He,
the Lord of All, should appear. We
have not room here to repeat His
prophecies and tell of all Jesus
told these humble followers of
His.;':' -
Tells Parables
To Jesus the ditsciples must have
seemed like children, and He made
His meaning clear to them by way
of prophecies, which symbolized
what He expected of them when
He should have gone. :
We must always be ready for the
coming, He tells us in the parable
of the ten virgins who were to go
to the wedding feast. We are told
that they must have been girl
friends of the bride and were bid
den to be present at the wedding
feast. None knew when the bride
groom would come, so the virgins
provided themselves with lamps.
Five of the Virgins those who
were wise took oil in vessel for
their lamps; but the foolish ones
took no oil. All slept until the
cry was made, "Behold, the bride
groom cometh; go ye out to meet
him!" Then the virgins trimmed
their lamps and the wise ones fill
ed theirs with oil and lighted
them; but the foolish tried to bor
row oil from the other, but were
told that they had only enough for
themselves. Then the Virgins
hastened to the merchants to get
oil, but when they returned the
bridegroom had come, and the
gates were locked against them.
"Lord, open to us," they cried, but
He said, "Verily, I say unto you, I
know ye not." Watch, therefore,
Jesus said, for' ye know neither
the day nor the hour wherein the
Son of Man cometh.
Parable of Talents
The parable of the ten talent
is then told. Talents were worth
a great deal of money. The par
able likened the kingdom of heav
en to a man who traveled to a far
country. Calling his servants he
gave five talents to the firsts two
to the second and one to the third,
according to his ability. Then he
went away. When he came back
after a long time, the man who
had been given five talents had
five more, ten in all, for him; and
likewise the man who had two tal
ents had doubled them. But the
man who had only had One talent,
Jesus at upon the Mount of Olives and
His disciples gathered around Him and
asked Him concerning His second com
ing: "Tell us when shall these things be?
And what shall be the sign of Thy com
ing and of the end of the world?" they
asked Him.
School Lesson
THE KINGDOM
had buried it in the garden and
now brought it, probably corroded
and thus worth lees. To the first
two the master said, "Well done,
good and faithful servants; thou
hast been faithful over a few
things, I will make thee ruler over
many things; enter thou into the
joy of thy Lord." But as to him
who had had but one talent and
who had made nothing, he was cast
into outer darkness.
In the day of judgment, "When
the Son of Man shall come in His
glory," He shall say to those on
His right hand, "I was a-hungered
and ye gave Me meat; I wa
thirsty, and ye gave Me drink; I
was a stranger, and ye took Me
in; naked, and ye clothed Me; I was
sick, and ye visited Me: I wag in
prison, and ye came unto Me." And
they shall say, "Lord, when saw
we Thee a-hungered, and fed Thee?
or thirsty, and gave Thee drink?
When saw we Thee a stranger, and
took Thee in? Or naked, and
clothed Thee? Or when saw we
Thee sick, or in prison, and came
unto Thee?"
And the King shall answer and
say unto them, "Verily I say unto
you, Inasmuch as ye have done
it unto one of the least of these
My brethren, ye have done it unto
Me."
We are the "Stewards in the
kingdom." So should we live that
we will have no fear of whatever
may befall us, even the Day of
Judgment.
