Gilmer Dies In Asheville Hospital Saturday Last rites were held on Snndav afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Morris- Gearing Funeral Home in Asheville for Mrs. Love Branner .Gilmer, 80, widow of the late Robert I). fiilmer. Attorney General of North Carolina ior eignt years, mm. UUmer died at 3:00 o'clock on Saturday morn ing at the Norburn Hosmtal where she had undergone a major opera tion on Monday. Dr. W. A. Lambeth, pastor of Central Methodist church, of Ashe ville, and the Rev. P. N. Gresham, rresoyxerian. minister, omciated. Burial was in the Branner plot in Riverside cemetery in Asheville. J. G. Stikeleather, of the Central Methodist church choir and life long friend, was in charge of the music Serving as pallbearers were: James R. Thomas, Robert V. Welch, William Medf ord, Joe Jack Atkins, Dr. Thomas Stringfield, and Walter Crawford, all of Waynesville, and Ben Atkins, of Charlotte. Mrs. Gilmer was born on Decem ber the 31, 1860, and was the daughter of CoL and Mrs. M. J. Branner, of Mossey Creek, Tenn., (now Jefferson City). She was a graduate of Martha Washington College, of Virginia. Following her graduation she taught English in the Asheville Academy at the time her brother-in-law, the late Bishop Atkins-was president. She was married to the late Rob ert D. Gilmer, of Mt Airy, for years one of the prominent lawyers of the state and served as Attorney General of North Carolina under Governor Charles B. Aycock and Governor Robert E. Glenn. They resided in Mt Airy the first two years, later moving to Waynesville. For years Mrs. Gilmer was a leader in North Carolina society' during her residence in the State Capital and her , home here, now occupied by the local post of the American Legion, was one of the social centers of the town. Mrs. Gilmer had traveled ex tensively and at one time lived for several years in Italy when her daughter, the late Mrs. J. P. Chase, was studying music. She was a former member of the Dorcas Bell Love chapter of the D. A. R. and after moving to Ashe ville joined the Edward Buncombe chapter. At the time of her death she was a member of Central Methodist church. Asheville. Her son, Branner Gilmer, died during the World War, and a daughter, Mrs. Chase, died last year. Her husband died in 1925. Surviving are three grandchil dren, Mrs. Josephine Chase Gamble, of Asheville, Miss Bebe Gilmer, ef Miami, and now a student at the University of Tennessee, and Branner Gilmer, Jr., also tf Miami; two great grandchildren, Mar guerite and Robert Gilmer Gable, of Asheville; one niece, Mrs. John Shackford, of Rock Hill, S.
