Mrs. J. S. Blair Follows Mrs. Alley As PTA President Largest Attendance in History of State Organiza tion Noted at Convention Mr. J. S. Blair, of Elizabetbtown, was elected president of the North Carolina Congress of Parents and Teachers at the state convention which was held in Asheville this week. She succeeds Mrs. D. Doyle Alley, who has held the office for the past three years. Mrs. Blair has been active in Parent Teacher work for the past .15 years, and has recently held the position of vice president in the state organization. Approximately 1,000 parent and teachers attended the two-day session of the twenty-second an nual convention of the North Car olina CongTess in Asheville, They represented over seven hundred local associations. The theme of the convention was "Childhood and Youth in a De mocracy," and the program was packed with addresses, forums, and panel discussions designed to de velop the theme. A number of social affairs honored the state officers and council members. Taking part on the program were many distinguished persons, in eluding Governor J. M. Broughton and Ex-Governor Clyde R. Hoey, Dr. Frank Richardson, child psy chologist, Dr. Clyde A. Erwin, etate superintendent of schools, and other well known educational leaders. The highlight of Tuesday morn ing was the address by Mrs. Wil liam Kletzer, of Portland, Oregon, president of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers. Mrs. Kletzer was introduced by Mrs. Alley. ' A new award, a cup donated by Mrs. Alley, retiring president, was presented to the district reporting the largest number of hundred per cent local associations, those having a parent from every home represented in the school, a mem ber of the parent-teacher asso ciation. Of special interest was the panel discussion on youth and its problems in which seven students from the Asheville schools partic ipated under the direction of S. Marion Justice, state supervisor of occupational guidance. Among local workers who at tended the meeting in addition to Mrs. Alley were, Mrs. George Kunze, Mrs, Linwood Grahl, Mrs; W. F.
