Outstanding among the individ ual growers are W. T. Shelton, of Waynesville, and J. B. Ivey, of Lake Junaluska and Charlotte. Both men have specialized in dahlias and gladioli and their gar dens are famous throughout the state. During the last few years Mr. Shelton has extended his interest to other flowers and his delphin ium, roses and lilies have rivaled the dahlias in the attention shown ty hundreds of visitors ' who in spect his gardens annually. Mr. Shelton has also originated a number of new dahlias and en joys planting and experimenting with seeds. . Mr. Iveyfias exhibited his flow ers at the National Flower Show in Madison Square Garden, New York City, and is well known for the high grade and exceptional quality of his flowers. He has been greatly interested in th lower shows staged by the wore a groups here and for years has generously donated the grand prize offered annually in the Wo man's Club summer show. Both Mr. Shelton and Mr. Ivey take an active part in the flower shows, and no exhibit is felt to be complete without entries from both gardens. For more than twenty-five years the Woman's Club has staged a late summer flower show featuring dahlias and gladioli. For around fifteen years, prior to its merging with the Woman's Club, the Com munity Club staged an early spring how featuring the popular and old fashioned perennials which grow so well in this section. . Keen interest has developed in the past twenty years in the grow ing of flowers in this section and the gardens and shows attract vis itors from all over this section of the state and makes this a good community in which to live. mSl AID TO SAVINGS FRIDAY See What You Save at Smith's 60c California SYRUP FIGS .
