Music Club Hears Paper On Life Of Paderewski Mrs. J. Dale Stents had the pa per of the afternoon at the initial meeting of the Waynes ville Music Club held after the summer vaca tions. Mrs. Henry Foy and Miss Ida Jean Brown were associate hostesses and the meeting was held Saturday afternoon in the Sunday school rooms of the Presby terian, church. Mrs. Stentz reviewed "Paderew ski's.; Memoirs", giving the im portant events in the life of this famous musician. She stated he was born in 1860 in a village in Russian Poland and suffered many hardships during boyhood. He be gan to play at the age of three years in 1889, at 25 he began to study with Leschetizky, the fa mous Polish teacher, in Vienna. He began his American tours in 1891.; Mrs. Stentz also pointed out his ardent love for his native land and how during the World war he and his wife worked for relief for their people. The guests included all kindergarten and first grade stu used to decorate the class room. An outdoor luncheon was served the guest. A number of games were enioyed. Winning the prizes were: Berndette Kenny, a set oi dishes: Clyde Ray, III a story book; Betty Liner, balloon; jacquanne Carswell, a ball; Dick Boyd, story book. All received favors of cup cakes with ligted candles. Sister De Padua was in charge of the arrangements. Miss Pauline Ray Will Wed Erwin Stdllenwerk Mr. and Mrs. Roy C. Ray, of HazelwOod, announced the engage ment of their daughter. Miss Paul ine Ray, to Erwin Stollenwerk, of Millwaukee. Wis. Mr. Stollenwerk is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Stollenwerk, of Milwaukee. Liner was hostess to the members of ' Waynesville Civic League at a meeting held on Wednesday evening. Mrs. Ru fus L. Allen, president, presided. In the absence of Mrs. Noble Garrett, Mrs. Roy Campbell serv ed as secretary. Plans were discussed for the study course and activities of the league for the coming year. It was agreed to postpone completion of the detailed program until after the luncheon to be held by the dis trict president of the clubs, Mrs. David S. Hall, at her home in Sylva, where , the club presidents will be instructed in the, year's work. Mrs. Allen will represent the club at the luncheon. Marriage Of Miss Ruth Davis Set For October 11 Mr. and Mrs. B. Frank Davis, of Waynesville, announce the en gagement and approaching marri age of their daughter, Miss Ruth Davis, to Jack Miles, of Sanford. The wedding will take place on Saturday, October 11, at the home of the bride's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. J. Fred Davis, in Hamp ton, Va. ';' The bride is a graduate of the Waynesville township high school, a member of the class of 1939.
