And Hobart Justice
Marry In Clayton
Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Kirkpatrick,
of Fines Creek, have announced
the marriage of their daughter,
Miss Lucy Kirkpatrick, to Hobart
Justice, son of Mrs. Earl Justice
and the late Mr. Justice, of Clyde.
The vows were solemnized on
Saturday, December the 20th, in
Clayton, Ga. For her marriage
the bride wore a blue wool suit
with black accessories.
Mrs. Justice is a graduate of
the Fines Creek high school and
also attended Western Carolina
Teachers College.
Mr. Justice is a graduate of
the Clyde high school. The young
couple will make their home in
Clyde, where the bridegroom holds
a position.

Miss Almarie Robinson was hos

day evening as a courtesy to Mrs.
Elmer Dudley, the former Miss
Virginia Whitner.
The Valentine colors were used
as a decorative note. Several
games of Rummey were enjoyed.
Prizes were presented to the win
ners of the high and low score.

A Supper Meeting

the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lawson
Messer in the White Oak section
of the county.
Rufus William Jackson, son of
Mrs. R. W. Jackson and a second
class seaman, is spending a few
days leave with his mother.
David Dickey, of Sweetwater,
Tenn., was the guest over the week
end of his grandfather, W. T. Lee
at his home "Fairhaven."

Mrs. Kermit Purcell and
Harry Lee Liner, Jr., were
hostesses on Tuesday evening of
a supper for the Hattie Siler Davis
Circle of the W. M. U. of the
Waynesville Baptist church.
The meeting was opened by the
singing of the W. M. TJ. hymn,
"The Light of the World Is
Jesus". The devotional was con
ducted by Mrs. Sam Jones.
Supper was served in the Welch
Memorial building. The Valen
tine motif was carried out in the
decorations.
After the business session the
program for the evening was given
which was based on "Honesty."
Those taking part on the program
were: Mrs. Jack Edwards, "Hon
est"; Mrs. Jimmie Williams, "Hon
esty and Stewardship"; Mrs.
Charlie Woodard, "Honesty With

Mrs. H. C. Martin of Blowing
Rock and Lenoir, who has been
visiting her sister, Mrs. R. H.
Blackwell here, left during the
week for a visit in Florida.
r. E. Robinson has returned
home after spending several weeks
with his daughter and son-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Homer Messer, in
Valdese. He was accompanied
home by Mrs. Messer who spent the
week-end here.
Miss Virginia Whitner Became
Bride Of Elmer Lee Dudley On 30
Married In Md.
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Whitner of
Hazelwood, have announced the
marriage of their daughter, Miss
Virginia Whitner, to Elmer Lee
Dudley, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S.
Dudley of Indian Head, Maryland.
They were married in a quiet
ceremony on January 30 at 7:30
o'clock in the Methodist parsonage
at Waldrof, Md. The Rev. Arthur
Hunter, pastor of the Waldrof
Methodist church, pronounced the
vows in the presence of the bride's
sister-in-law, Mrs. Carroll Whitner,
of Hazelwood, and 1 Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Knox, of Indian Head.
The bride wore a dark blue dress
with matching accessories,
Following the ceremony an in
formal reception was held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Dudley.
Mrs. Dudley was graduated from
the Waynesville Township High
School, and attended Montreat Col
lege. She has many connections
on both her maternal and paternal
sides with families prominently
identified in Haywood County.
The bridegroom holds a position
with the government munitions
plant at Indian Head.
Mr. and Mrs. Dudley plan to
make their home at Indian Head.
CIRCLES MEET
The Womans Circle of the Aux
iliary of Hazelwood Presbyterian
church met Tuesday eveninsr at
the home of Mrs. L. N. Davis. Mrs.
G. C. Summerow had charge of
the program.
The Business Woman's Circle
met with Mrs. Elmer Dudley with
Mrs. Sam Lane as program leader.
Mrs. Hugh A. Love, town clerk,
left yesterday for St. Cloud, Fla.,
where she will visit her sister, Mrs.
Frederick Berry.

A memorial service honoring the
late Mrs. S. A. Jones and Mrs.
E. J. Robeson, two former mem
bers, and Mrs. Rachel Clarke, wife
of a veteran of the War Between
the States, was held at the Febru
ary meeting of the Haywood chap
ter of the United Daughters of the
Confederacy which met with Mrs.
C. F. Kirkpatrick and Miss Robena
Miller at the Hotel LeFaine on
Friday afternoon.
Mrs. R. N. Barber was in charge
of the service. Mrs. Arthur Meade
read a passage of scripture and
paid a tribute to Mrs. Jones, a
former president of the chapter.
In closing she lighted a candle in
memory of Mrs. Jones.
Mrs. W. F. Swift paid a tribute
to Mrs. E. J. Robeson, who was
for many years a member. She al
so lighted a candle in her memory.
Mrs. John M. Queen paid tribute
to Mrs. Clarke, mother of Mrs. Sam
Queen, a member of the chapter,
also lighting a candle in her mem
ory. At the close of the memorial
service Mrs. C. F. Kirkpatrick and
Miss Nancy Killian gang "Some
time Well Understand."
During the business session Mrs.
T. L. Bramlett reported that Vir
gil Hoglen had won the UDC dec-
amation medal and Doyle Alley
the cash award at the annual event
held last month at the high school.
The chapter voted to remember
Captain Alden Howell, of Waynes
ville, now of Los Angeles, veteran
of the War Between the States,
on February the 18th when he will
observe his 101st birthday anni
versary.
Mrs. R. N. Barber reported that
the district meeting would be held
in Franklin on April 7th. Mrs.
E. J. Hyatt reported the work of
the UDC in the recent Red Cross
war relief drive.
Mrs. J. Harden Howell had the
paper of the afternoon. She gave
an interesting history of the Vir
ginia Military Institute, which was
followed by a duet by Mrs. Fred
Martin and Mrs. Calhoun, accom
panied by Mrs. W. L. Matney.
Mrs. Howell also gave a sketch
of the life of Sidney Lanier in
observance of his 100th birthday
anniversary. Mrs. Thomas M,
Sea well gave a reading "Catta-
hoochee", by Lanier. Mrs. Fred
Calhoun and Mrs. Fred Martin

Miss Marjorie Dunn, a student at
State College. While in Raleigh

Dyer-Woody Marriage
Is Announced
Mr. and Mrs. John Dyer have
announced the marriage of their
daughter, Miss Laura Dyer, to Mr.
Marney Woody, both of Waynes
ville. The vows were solemnized
in ClaytonJ Ga., on July the 4th,
1941.
Mr. Woody is the son of Mr. C.
D. Woody, and is now working in
Newport News Shipbuilding and
