Page 16 THE WAYNESVILLE MOUNTAINEER THURSDAY JUXE Funeral Rites Held For Mrs. P. S. Hyatt Sunday Afternoon Last riteg were held on Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home of her son, W. A. Hyatt, on the Fairview road for Mrs. Margaret Nancy Jones Hyatt, 92, who died on Saturday morning, following an extended illness. The Rev. J. Clay Madison, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiated. Bur ial was in Greenhill cemetery. Grandsons of Mrs. Hyatt served as pallbearers. They were How ard Hyatt, Walter Hyatt, James Hyatt, of Waynesville, and Loch Ian, Billy id Clarence Hyatt, of iJewpo'rc News, Va. Mrs. Hyatt was prominently connected in Western North Car olina. She was the daughter of Captain James Walker Jones and his wife, Mary Allen Jones. She was born in Henderson county on Aug. 19, 1850, and was the widow of the late Pinkney E. Hyatt, of Waynesville, to whom she was married in May 1872. She was educated at the old Female College of Spartanburg, S. C. She had been a member of the Methodist church for more than 75 years, and at the time of her death was the oldest member of the First Methodist church of Waynesville. She was greatly be loved by a large circle of relatives and friends. Mrs. Hyatt was the mother of 9 children, five of whom survive, in cluding: W. A. Hyatt, with whom she resided; Walter V Harry J., Ernest J.r all of Waynesville, and Frank D., of Asheville; 25 grand children; 12 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. J. E. Corpening, of Asheville, and Mrs. T. B. Allen, Hendersonville. Among those from out of town at tending the funeral were: Mrs. J, C. Corpening, Mr. and Mrs. John Clement, Mrs. Chas. Clark, Mrs. Frank Johnson, Mrs. Gussie Kin ard, and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde White sides all of Asheville; Mrs. T. B. Allen, and Miss Leona Allen , of Hendersonville; Mr. and Mrs. Law rence Cowan and Miss Mildred Cowan, of Webster; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hyatt, of Blackstone, Va., Donald M. Hyatt and David Hyatt, fit Wilmington; Mr. and Mrs. 'Cowafl Moody and daughter, Car olyn Moody, of Sylva. 'Jfeck Rathbone Graduates This Week From Berea Jack Rathbone, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Rathbone, of Lake Juna luska, received the B. A. degree in economics at the commencement exercises at Berea College on Monday. Young Rathbone, who attended Brevard Junior College two years before going to Berea, has been active in campus affairs including Y. M. C. S., and public affairs for um at Berea. He is a graduate of the Waynesville township high school. ' Annual Decoration Day Takes Place At Rogers Cove Cemetery Saturday The annual decoration program will take place at the Rogers Cove cemetery on Saturday, June 6th. All the women of the community are requested to bring a picnic dinner. All those who have friends and rel atives buried in the cemetery are invited to attend. TAXES TAKE $12 MILLION Chicago. Out of an estate of Virginia McCormick, daughter of Cyrus Hall McCormick, inventor of the reaper, Federal and state taxes will take more than $12, 000,000, or approximately two thirds of the estate. Hammett will be in charge of the intermediate group from 13 through 18. Over twenty trained workers will assist in the instruction, handwork and recreation. The pro gram will consist of Bible study, pageants, handwork and various types of recreation.
