THE WAYNES VILLE MOUNTAINEER t 5: DAR Chapter Has last Meeting Of Year On Friday The Dorcas Bell Love chapter of !.e Daughters of the American r evolution held the last meeting of e year 1941-42 on Friday after noon with Mrs. Harry Rothi as Hostess, Mrs. S. H. Bushnell, regent, presided. Annual reports of the officers -nd committee chairmen were giv .'n which presented the activities of the chapter during the past 2r. Mrs. Bushnell also reported .r.e purchase of a 100 war bond by the organization. Miss Lois Harold had the pro gram of the afternoon and she i,oke on the history of the flag, starting with its first inception in J. is country and following it down to its present state of 48 stars and 13 stripes. She illustrated its development with color drawings which had been made by the stu dents in her grade at Central Elementary school, iiiss Patsy Gwyn, winner of the .ate DAR Pilgrimage award, told of her trip to Chicago and he many courtesies extended the Pilgrims by : the National DAR Society. She presented the chap ter with a contribution for their work and Mrs. Bushnell, regent, and Mrs. W. F. Swift, vice regent, .vith small gifts from Chicago. Announcement was made of the "Victory Vanishing" benefit parties that have been inaugurated by the chapter in which the organizations jf the town are cooperating. The money derived will be applied on the courtesy program to the draf tees leaving this area. Motion was made for a free will offering of $1.00 from each mem ber for the purchase of blood plasma for the men in the service. A number of special guests were present for the meeting. A social hour followed adjournment. Caroline Dillard Is Married To Rev. G. W. Bennett " Miss Caroline Fatten Dillard, "daughter of Mrs. O. S. Dillard, of Candler and the late Professor Dillard, became the bride of the Rev. George Willis Bennett, son of Mrs. J. C. Bennett, of Candler, in a ceremony at the home of the bride's mother at 5 o'clock on Thursday afternoon. Rev. Nane Starnes, pastor of the West Asheville Baptist church, piy formed the double ring cere mony in the presence of the fam ilies and a few' close friends. The room in which the ceremony was performed was decorated with evergreens placed against the large rock fireplace before which the vows were spoken. Candelabra and large baskets of white gladioli and larkspur were used on either side of the fireplace. A program of wedding music was presented by Mrs. Robert Barnes, sister of the bridegroom. Selections included "Liebstraum" by Liszt and "Traummerei" by Schubert. Miss Nell Parsons sang "Because" by Guy d' Hardelot and "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life" by Herbert. , The bridal chorus from "Lohengrin" by Wagner was used and during the ceremony Mrs. Barnes played "To A Wild Rose" by MacDowell. Miss Jane Dillard was her sis ter's maid of honor and only at tendant. She wore a dress of pink and white printed sheer and her bouquet was of a nosegay of roses. The bride and bridegroom enter ed the room together. The bride wore a pastel blue crepe ensemble with matching blue hat with a navy shadow veil and navy ac cessories. She wore a corsage of orchids. The ceremony was followed by a small informal reception. The table was covered with a handsome lace cloth and centered by a thre tier cake. Immediately after the reception the couple left for a short wed ding trip. The bride is a graduate f the Woman's College of the University ! of North Carolina of the class of 1941. While there she was cir culation manager of the college paper and a member of the Althe lian society. For the past several months she has made her home here, where she holds a position with the First National Bank. The bridegroom was graduated from Wake Forest College in 1941. He was active in debating, being a member of the Wake Forest Col lege ' debating squad and was a member of the Pi Kapp Delta fra ternity. He has been pastor of Chunn's Cove Baptist church , for the past year. Out-of-town guests for the wed ding included Miss Muriel Greig, of Newark, N. J., and Miss Leida Beshears, of Franklin, former -classmates of the bride. ; . O. R. Martin, who is now located at Otto, spent the week-end in own with his family. Engagement Announced y ' x V - i - v f ' "- '' ' '. f MISS CORINNE ALLEY, whose engagement to Leon Marcus Killian, Jr., of Newport News, Va., and Waynes ville, has been an nounced by her mother, Mrs. Doyle Davis Alley. Mr. Killian is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Killian, of Waynesville. The marriage will take place in August, the date to be announced later. Mrs. D. D. Alley Announces Engagement Of Her Daughter Mrs. Doyle Davis Alley has an nounced the engagement and ap proaching marriage "of her daugh ter, Miss Corinne Alley, to Leon Marcus Killian, Jr. The wedding will take place sometime in Au gust, the date to be announced later. The bride-elect is the daughter of the late Doyle D. Alley, prominent local attorney and one time presi dent of Young Democratic clubs of the -state. She is a graduate of " the local high school and for the past two years has been a student at the Woman's College or the University of North Carolina, Mr. Killian is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Killian, of Waynes ville, and the grandson of the late Mr. "and Mrs.' Mark Killian. He is a graduate of the Waynesville township high school and later was a student at the Blue Ridge School for Boys and McCallie's. He has taken special work at the Bliss , Electrical Engineering Col lege of Washington, D. C. He holds a position in the elec trioal department of the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, of Newport News, Va. C. Brown, president-elect, Mrs. W. H. F. Millar, and Mrs. Guy Massie, president. Alternates included: Mrs. J. Harden Howell, Mrs. Edna McGee, and Mrs. M. C. Green. During the social hour the mem bers enjoyed jointly with the American Legion. " . . . Birthday Party Given . For Son ja Sue Snyder Mrs. Jack Snyder entertained a group of children on Saturday af ternoon for her young daughter, Sonja Sue in observance of her fourth birthday anniversary. Games featured the entertain ment of the afternoon, after which ice cream and cake were served. Those present were; Mary Davis, Patsy Clark, Barbara Curtis, Mary Alice Crawford, Lois Ann Tittle, Johnny Tittle,' Grace Blanton, Su sie Swanger, Barbara Fortner, Colleen Kuykendall, Elizabeth Ann Davis, Harold Clark, Mike Byrd, Bud Swanger, Stuart James, and Carol Davis. The marriage will take place during the summer, the date to be an nounced late. Both the bride-elect and the bridegroom attended the local town ship schools. Mr. McDaniels is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thurman McDaniels, of Gastonia. He holds a position in Wilmington.
