Penny Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Randolph Davis, of Iron Duff, have announc ed the marriage of their daugh ter, Miss Harriette Davis, to Cadet John Everette Penny, which took place on Friday, July 3rd. The ceremony was performed at the home of the bride's brother- in-law, and sister, Mr. and Mrs Allen Pickett Walther, in New York City, with the Rev. Dr. Paul R. Dickie officiating. The bride wore a powder blue faille suit with dark blue acces sories. He corsage was of pink rosebuds. Mrs. Penny is the granddaughter of Stephen L. Woody, of Cataloochee. Mrs. Allen P. Walther, was the bride's only attendant. She wore a pink and blue suit. Mrs. Virgil R. Davis, mother of the bride, wore a sheer gown of white and blue. Cadet Penny, is the grandson of J. P. Francis, of Waynesville, and son of Mrs. Robert Miller and the lute J. E. Penny. He is a grad uate aeronautical engineer of New York University where he was a member of the Tau Beta Pie Ihhv orary fraternity. At present he is an aviation cadet attached to New York University. Following the ceremony a small reception was given honoring the couple, after which they left on a wedding trip of unannounced destination. Upon their return around the first of August the couple will be at home at 156 West 85th street, New York City. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hutton and young daughter, Mary Lou Hut ton, and son, Fred, Jr.. of Greens- bor, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Noble Garrett. Mrs. Hutton is the former Miss Edna Garrett, of Waynesville, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Garrett. Mrs. I. J. Brown and Miss Ida Jean Brown, have as their guests this week, the former's sister-in-law, Miss Rena Brown and niece, Miss Bertha Abernathy, of Steel Creek, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brown, of Charlotte. .'' ' Miss Dorothy Green, who holds a position in the war department in tne fetation Hospital in Camp Davis, spent the week-end here with her parents, Mr. and James I. Green. She had as her guest Jimmie Fields, Staff Sergeant, of Camp Davis. Miss Scruggs Becomes Bride of Sgt. Harkins Announcement has been made of the marriage of Miss Mildred Scruggs, daughter of Lee Scruggs and the late Mrs. Scruggs, to Staff Sergeant Clyde Harkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Harkins, of Union, S. C., which took place on Saturday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Eller. The Rev. Frank Leatherwood pronounc ed the vows. The bride wore1 a baby blue dress with white accessories. Mrs Harkins attended the Waynesville township high school and Mr. Harkins the Union high school. Sergeant Harkins is now sta tioned with Co. "D" at Fort Jack son. He entered the service two years ago; and expects to be trans ferred soon to Detroit, Mich., for some time. Mrs. Harkins plan to accompany him there. They also attended the launching of the Jeremiah Van Rensslair, which was the four teenth Liberty freighter to be sent from the North Carolina Ship building Company to join the Mar itime Commission's growing Vic tory Fleet. Miss Ellen Campbell, of the staff of Rex Hospital in Raleigh, is visiting her mother, Mrs. D, C. Campbell, at Maggie. Miss Campbell was accompanied here by Miss Etta Phillips, U. S. Wednesday. The pastor of the church will of ficiate. Mr. Rathbone was a native of this county and had been engaged in farming for many years. He was born on March 22, 1885.
