Over a three-days period the youngsters pictured above salvaged 10 tons of scrap materials. Included in the heap are heavy railroad irons, heavy shafts, iron wheels, and other materials considered excellent for scrap purposes. Several heavy pieces of a steel bridge, inundated for two years by the waters of nearby Pigeon river, were pulled from the river by the children and a few older persons of the Fibreville community. None of the youngsters claims any individual credit for the excellent piece of work, but they alfc agree "that we all did it and we are going to keep right on doing it for Uncle Sam." The heavy pile of Iron and Steel netted each member of the working crew approximately 740 pounds. The children range in age from four to 14 years.
