Kerr announced ion Farmers may obtain gasoline for their tractors, engines, and oth er non-highway equipment for a period of six months instead of three months under a change in rationing regulations announced by the office of price administration. The change is being made, OPA said, because of the variability of farming operations which frequent ly make it difficult for farmers to estimate their requirements for only a three-month period. The new provision is alxo designed to save the farmers' time in obtain ing rations for operations which are so essential to the war effort. A procedure is being worked out through county war boards of the department of agriculture for as sisting farmers in making their applications for non-highway gaso line. The review thus afforded Is a safeguard against inflation of rations and makes it possible to issue rations for longer periods. The order extending the length of the period is contained in Amendment 25 to ration order 50, effective March 2. "For your information," said Congressman Harold Cooley, creep ing up from behind in the House cloakroom where the press roams with the members, "I have just es corted Dick Fountain to the House members' gallery." A trip to the gallery revealed that the State's former lieutenant governor, Rickard Tillman Foun tain, of Rocky Mount, twice candi date for U. S. Senate, had a front row seat, lookinf down into the House Chamber and watching the solons debate some red hot farm . of ap pointment of James Myrick, of Lit tleton, and Oscar lireene, of Kin ston, as principal candidates to lill two vacancies at the I!. S. Naval Academy at Annapolis. Penn T. Watson, Jr., of Wilson, was named first alternate for Myrick; William J. Brooks, of Wilson, second, and Charles Thom as Odom, of Rick Square, third alternate. The first alternate for Greene was Warren S. Perry, of Wilson, second, Don T. Evans, of Enfield, and third, William K. Neal, of Roanoke Rapids. W.
