C. Francis, chairman of the Haywood County AAA Com mittee. The county committee is urging that anyone desiring to secure wheat make plans to obtain it on the designated day as it will be the only day on which a commit teeman will be available to handle the feed wheat sales. Glenn McCrackan, member of the county committee has been named to be in charge of the sales and the bins will be open from 9:00 a. m. to 5:00 p. m. There have been 31 cars of feed wh at received under the AAA program to the present date, and they have great'y relieved a very serious feed shortage in this coun ty during the year, according to Mr. Francis. Georpe Dewey Chambers Has Week-End Leave George Dewey Chambers, Para chute Rigger, Third Class, U. S Naval Air Forces, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C Chambers, Waynesville route 2, spent the past week-end with his parents. He volunteered last year and en listed in Raleigh and frrm there was sent to Bainbridge, Md-, for his biot training and then to Cor pus Christi, Tex. Frrm the latter he was sent to his pres nt post at Norfolk, Va, Seaman Chas D. Stephens Now On Sea Duty Seaman Chas. D. Stephens, of Waynesville, formerly of Cullo whee, has completed his basic train ing at the U. S. Maritime Servic; Training Station at Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, N. Y. He was transferred from there to Portland, Maine, where he was assigned to a ship and is now at s:a. Prior to entering the service Seaman Stephens was employed with the Consolidated Aircraft Corporation in Elizabeth City. His wife, the former Miss Mary Kathryn McClur: and small daugh ter, Ann, are residing with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Mc Clure for the duration. Last Rites To Be Held Thursday For Sgt S. F. Roberson (Continued from pare 1) elude members of the local post of BACK AT SCHOOL Miss Mary Noland has returned to the Woman's College of the Uni versity of North Carolina after spending the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James T. Noland. the American Legion, of which Sgt. Roberson was a member, and the following: Robert Hugh Clark, Jonathan Woody. W. F. Swift, E. S. Slack, Dill Howell, G. C. Plott, J. P. Dicus, T. C. Norris and Walter Mehaffey, all of Waynesville, and Levi Buckner, Eldrige Hill, Ar thur Duck, Lee Maynard, Crayton Boone, Bunyon Beaver and William Duck, all of Buckner. Sgt. Roberson was bom in Way nesville and was the son of W. W. Roberson, of Buckner, and the late Mrs. Roberson, of Waynesville. He had resided here until 1936 when he moved to Buckner, where he was serving as postmaster at the time he volunteered in the service. At various times he had been emloyed by the Swift Telephone Company, the Swift Motor Com pany, the Town of Waynesville, and at the time he left here had held a position with the J. P. Dicus Construction Company. During World War I, Sgt. Rob erson was attached to the com munications service and served in France for over eleven months. He volunteered for service in World War II, on November, 3, 1942, and was inducts d at Fort Bragg and from there was trans ferred to Bainbridge, Ga., and then to Seymour Johnson Field. From the latter he was sent to Willow Run, Mich., and more recently to Wendov:r Field, Utah. He was reported missing on De cember 30, by his commanding officer, who kept in touch with Mrs. Roberson every 24 hours after the first message, whsn the plane was reported to be overdue. The wreckage of the craft was not dis covered nitil Saturday. Jan. 1. Sgt. Roberson's plane of which he was crew chief, took off wiin five others on a routine flight from J Wendover Field on Thursday, De cember 30. Two of the planes crashed and twenty persons were killed. The wreckage of the two planes was found on the west shore of the Great Lakes, within one hundred yards of each other, it was reported by the Salt Lake City press association dispatches. This was taken to indicate that the planes may have collided in mid air. Infantry, has returned to his post of duty at Camp Phillips. Kan., after a ten day furlough with his wife here. Cpl. Williams enterrd the service in June, 1942, and was inducted at Fort Jackson. From Jackson he was sent to the following camps prior to serving at his present post: Camp Pickett, Va., Camp Blanding, Fla., maneuvers in Ten nessee, California and Arizona.
