Iron Duff News The farmers of this section are ready for Jack Frost and have most of their crops harvested. Despite the dry weather the tobacco crops are reasonably good. Several farm ers have had to build extra shed rooms this fall. Lee Williamson. Weaver Cham bers, Grover Bryson, Ned Craw ford, and Glen Tate have all built large new tobacco stock barns. Mr. and Mis. Clinton McElroy, of Crabtree, and Mr. and Mrs. Grady Davis were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. White on Sunday. Lawson McElroy and daughter, Miss Leska McElroy, are visiting Linwood McElroy, who is now sta tioned in Washington. Mr. Mc Elroy taught in the county schools before he entered the navy. Mrs. Mary Green has returned to her home in Lenoir after spend ing several days here as the guest of Mrs. Yoder Ray. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stocton and the former's mother, all of Char lotte, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Manson Medford. Pvt. Nathan Hill Here On 12-Day Furlough Pvt. Nathan Hill, son of Mrs. Sam Hill, of Waynesville, is spending a 12-day furlough here with his wife and children. Pvt. Hill was inducted in the service in June of this year at Fort Bragg and from there was transferred to Camp Croft, where he took his basic training. He will report upon leaving here to Camp Gudger, Okla. Pvt Hill was employed by Mar tin Electric Company at the time he entered the service. He has three brothers in the service, all of whom are serving overseas: (Edward, Roe and John Hill. Sue What is your idea of a man? White, and despite the heavy rain there were several members present. Miss Smith talked on Clothing and gave a number of good sutftjestions. The next meet ing will be held at the home of Mrs. Thurman Davis, which will be an all-day meeting. Fines Creek News By Mrs. D. N. Rathbone The farmers in this section have had fine crops this year and are now busy harvesting. The lunchroom has been opened at the Fines Creek school and hot lunches are now being served the students. Miss Addie Rathbone and Mrs. Lenn Rathbone are in charge of the lunches. Mrs. Sam Queen and baby, Sam mie Lou, who have been living with her sister at Mars Hill since her husband has been in the army, spent the past week here visiting Mr. and Mrs. Roy Green, parents of her husband. Mrs. Erwin Sutton and her daughter, Mrs. Ray Stanley, Mrs. May Burr Haney and children, and Mrs. Kenneth Walker, Eugene Sut ton, Robert Sutton and Carol Sut ton, all of Waynesville, spent Sun day with Mrs. Charles Sutton at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. He entered the service in July, 1942, and rec. ived his boot training in Norfolk, Va., after which he was assigned to sea duty. He has two brothers in the ser vice, Pvt. Herbert W. Tate, now in Germany who was wounded in action on June 25, and has been awarded the Purple Heart; and Pvt. Wallace Tate, now in Eng land who is serving with the American airborne troops.
