Shelton, of Waynesville, R.F.D. No. 2. He entered the service on January 3, 1943, and took his boot training at the Great Lukes Naval Train ing Center and from there was sent to Shoemaker, Calif. Huh Rathbone In County On Leave Private First Class Hugh Rath bone, ll. S. Marin: s, is spending a ten-day leave with his mother, Mrs. Joe Rathbone of Lake Junaluska. Pfc. Rathbone volunteered for duty in the Marines on Sept. 10, 1942 and took his boot training at Parris Island, and from there was sort to Philadelphia, wlr re he has been stationed for the past two years. Two Friends Meet For First Time In Two Years In California A. A. Carden, MM 1c and E. E Boone, CM 1c, friends here in Waynesville before they entered the U- S. Navy, recently met in Oakland, Calif., for the first time in two years. Their wives, Mrs. Boone, the for mer Miss Doris Messer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Tenney, Jr. Arrives In States Edwin W Tenney, Jr., U. S. Ma rines, has arrivtd in California, according to information received by his father. He arrived in San Diego last Thurs day and after a period spent at a redistribution center he will be home on a leave. INt. Ralph J. Rathbone Here On Furlough Private Ralph J. Rathbone, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Rath bone of Fines Creek, is spending a 19 days furlough with his parents. Pvt. Rathbone was inducted in the service at Fort Bragg in May of this year. He was sent to Camp Plauchee, La. for his basic training and from there to Camp Millard, Ohio, his present post. At the time he entered the ser vice he was employed by the New port News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company. He is attached to the Transport Corps. present rank, according to infor mation received by his wife, the former Miss Sara Welch. - Capt. Peek entered the service on February 8, 1941, and took his basis training at Camp Living ston, La. From the latter he was sent to officers candidate school at Fort Benning, Ga. Later he was sent to Fort McClellan, Ala., and then overseas to the Burma area, where he has served for the past 14 months. Prior to entering tho service he was employed by th-j American Enka Corporation. While he is in service Mrs. Peek is making her home with her mother, Mrs. Saiiv Welch, in Bethel.
