Sorrells Funeral services were conducted last Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Wesley's Chapel, Methodist church, Sylva, for Harrell E. Sor rells, 19 months old son of Mr. and Mrs. James Sorrells, who died at the home of his parents on Allen's Creek Thursday. The Rev. W. L Sorrells officiated. Burial was in the Sylva cemetery. Surviving are the parents, twe brothers, one sister and his grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sor rells, of Sylva. The Garrett Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Ruby Jean Palmer Friends and relatives in Hay wood county were notified of the death of the infant daughter, Ruby Jean Palmer, of Mr. and Mrs. Reu ben Palmer, formerly of this sec tion, who now reside in Everett, Wash. Funeral services were con ducted on Thursday, October 26. 4 War Bond Rallies Are Scheduled (Continued from page 1) to result from these special rallies. Yesterday Cataloochi-e township met their quota, with $87.50 to spare. This is the first township to make the quota. Waynesville was the next highest, with almost half of the quota raised. The first rally of the week will be held at the Clyde school on Fri day night, at 7:30. The Canton committee will have charge of this meeting, featuring the Canton hitrh school 'band and several speakers from Moore General Hospital. A similar rally was held at Bethel on Monday night at which time $4,175 in bonds were sold. Those in charge of bond sales in this area announced three rallies would be held, the first to be at the Jonathan Creek school on Tuesday, December 5th, at 7:30. The Waynesville band will be fea tured, men just back from the battle fronts, as well as leaders in this area in the war bond work, including Mr, Francis, Mr. Allen, J. E. Massie, permanent county chairman, Jonathan Woody, dis trict chairman, M. H. Bowles, in charge of school, Charlie Ray, W. Curtis Russ and others. The second rally will be held on Wednesday night at the Crabtree school, with the band and returned men from the battle front speaking. On Friday night, December 8th, a rally will be held at the Fines Creek school. Most of the sales of bonds made to date have been small purchases One of the largest purchases was made by the First Baptist Church here when $2,250 of the building fund money was put into bonds. A purchase of $3,000 in bonds was assigned Hayawood by the Standard Oil Company of New Jer sey. The company is buying a half million in bonds in the state. LteG.C. Winchester Declared Killed (Continued from page 1) ceiving his wings and commission at Hondo, Tex., in April, 1943. He was also given advanced training at Dyersburg, Tenn., and Grand Is land, Neb. He left the states on August 20, and landed in England around Sept. 5. He had completed a number of missions over enemy territory. Lt. Winchester was a graduate of the Waynesville Township high school and at the time he entered the service as a volunteer was em ployed by the Unagusta Manufac turing Company. He has a brother in the service, Ralph Winchester, Aviation Machinist Mate, third class, who is stationed at Miami. Annual Christmas Tuberculosis Seals Now On Sale The 38th annual sale of Tuber culosis seals was launched on Mon day in the community, according to Mrs. Frank Ferguson, local chair man, who is urging that everyone respond to the call. Mrs. S. P. Gay has been named to have charge of the sales in the industrial plants. Mrs. John M. Queen and Mrs. Jimmy Boyd will conduct the sales through the mail ing lists. 1 Seals are being sold through all the schools in this section of the county. Children are taking them home to their parents and teachers are assisting the students in mak ing: sales in various areas. Last year more than $400 was raised through the local sales, with seventy-five per cent kept for work among tubercular patients and sus pects.
