I am in favor of giving our friend, the Judge, a rising vote of thanks. That would be a good way to show our appreciation But we could show it in a better way. How about keeping those places closed for a generation? To this end, how about making our Board of Aldermen a standing committee to tell each succeeding Judge that is headed this way that the people of Waynesville want to keep those places closed, or, if that cannot be dune, see that they are run strictly according to law. We have a police force that are capable of doing the job, I believe, and if they are told by official order to keep watch upon these places I believe it will be done. Not only should they keep watch upon them, but make arrests upon liver me fro mevery evil work, and will preserve me unto his heaven ly kingdom." The Code of Legal Ethics forbids the air ing of lawsuits through the newspapers, but I desire to correct the erroneous im pression conveyed to the public, by the quoted statement published in the issue of The Mountaineer dated November 30, 1944, in the article referring to the above en titled action. There is no suggestion sponsored by the pleadings filed therein, nor will there be a suggestion promoted by the evidence of the plaintiff at the hearing, which could convey to the public, that there is any desire on the part of the plaintiff, or any one else connected therewith, to hinder or in any wise obstruct the operation of a City Bus Service, with designated routes, schedules and stops, as provided by law. This service, properly operated, can only result in great benefits to the community; and the community, as a whole, should feel grateful to Mr. Lee as the sponsor, and to the Town of Waynesville in their co-operation, with Mr. Lee, in granting to him such privilege, as the law allows, to so operate a City Bus Service. When I was employed in this matter, I studiously examined the law, which I deemed pertinent to the issue, and in con sequence of my findings and interpreta tion of the law, I consulted the Mayor of the town. I had reasons to believe we were in perfect accord after our discus sion, and several days later, when that con ference had borne no fruit, I consulted the Business Manager of the town, and he too, seemed in complete accord with me. Somj days later, while still representing b; clients, and so far failing lo register my efforts to bring about an adjustmer of this matter, I consulted the Aldenna whom I had been advised by the Busines Manager of the town, had charge of thl matter, towit, W. H. Massie. I had long drawn-out discussion with this merf ber, and I was advised by him, that in mediate action would be taken to plat this bus concern on designated route schedules and stons. as the law prom it should be operated. This venture lft wise limiirht no results, and I then n sorted to legal procedure (o protect clients. I recall that there is a Maxim of IN Cnm mrvn T.nw wh rh savs: "The King cat do no wrong".
