Woodward Announcement has been made of the marriage of Mrs. Harry Clif ton Kleim and Mr. Henry Willis Woodward, of Waynesville, which took place on Thursday, November 80th in St. Petersburg, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. Woodward will be St home at the Adger House after May the first. Miss Wilma Hallyburton spent Christmas with friends and rela tiws in Charlotte and Hamlet. Miss Virginia McElroy, who is employed at the Naval operating base in Norfolk, is spending two weeks with her mother, Mrs. Sam Leatherwood at Lake Junaluska. Prof, and Mrs. W. C. Allen had with them during Christmas week, their son, W. C. Allen, Jr., of Ral eigh; their grandson, Pvt. Humes Hart, student under the ASTR, at North Georgia College, Dahlonega; and Mrs. Leona Pitts, of Spring Hope. Miss Betty Mowdy, who is resid ing in Asheville, spent Christmas here with her uncle, Robert Mc Lean. Joseph Way, III, student at the Richmond Medical College, spent the Christmas holidays here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Way. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Frehn, of Bristol, Va., were the guests over Christmas of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Blackwell. George Aiken, of the Waynes ville Mountaineer, spent the Christ mas holidays with his family in Gastonia. Miss Anne Osborne, daughter of Mrs. Evelyn Abel Osborne, stu dent at the University of North Carolina, spent the Christmas week-end in town with her mother and family. Walker Hold Open House On 60th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Albert C. Walker of Clyde, R.F.D. No. 1, held open house on Sunday afternoon, Christ mas Eve, in observance of their sixtieth wedding anniversary. Friends and relatives called be tween the hours of 2:00 in the afternoon and 8 in the evening. Blazing log fires added a cheerful note to the rooms in which the guests were received. The house was arranged through out with- holly, Brazillian pepper berries, in addition to numerous rases of rases, carnations, chrys anthemums and poinsettis sent by friends. Mrs. Walker, 77, bride of sixty years ago, wearing a becoming dress of rose shade, received with the bridegroom, 78, of sixty years ago. Mrs. Walker wore a strand of pears a treasured gift of many years, and her flowers were white carnations. The guests were welcomed at the front door by Mrs. Ruth Brian and Mrs. O. L. Yates. Miss Betty Jo Hawkins and Miss Martha Best had charge of the register. In the dining room Mrs. Mary Hawkins, Mrs. Betty Burr Reece, Mrs. Frances Justice, Mrs. Ethel Walker and Mrs. Lou Lee Walker served Russian tea and cookies from an attractively arranged table in the Christmas motif with lighted tapers. Mr. and Mrs. Walker, who are widely connected in Haywood coun ey, were married at the home of the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hiram McCracken of Crabtree. The ceremony was performed by the late Rev. A. B. Thomas. There are four persons residing in the county who attended the marriage includ ing Mrs. Charlie Hill, Mrs. Ellen McCracken, J. L. Walker and Dr. W. L. Kirkpatrick, the first three also called at the home on Sunday afternoon. Mr. Walker is a prominent farm er and stock raiser in the Crabtree section. He is active in the affairs of his community, having served as superintendent of the Sunday school of the Rock Spring Baptist Church for more than twenty-five years. Mrs. Walker has also been active for many years both in the church and community affairs. She is a member of the Rock Spring Home Demonstration club. Mr. and Mrs. Walker are the parents of the following children: Mrs. Frances Justice, Clyde, R.F.D. No. 1; Mrs. Betty Burr Reece, Charleston, S. C; Mrs. Adeline Henson (deceased); Paul Walker of Baltimore, Md.; Mrs. Ruth Brian, Lake Wales, Fla.; Clayton Walk er, Waynesville; Mrs. Mary Haw kins, Clyde, R.F.D. No. 1; Eugene Walker and Ted Walker, of Can ton; and Billy Walker, First Class Petty Officer, now in South Pa cific. They have twenty grandchildren, eight of whom are in the service. They are; Lt. Comdr. Aubrey Reece, of the Pacific area; SSgt. Albert J. Justice, South Pacific area; Sgt. Louis Reece, Keesler Field, Miss.; Pvt. Walter Hawkins, Camp Croft, S. C-; SSgt. Eugene Hawkins, now in France; Cpl- Car roll Hawkins, in South Pacific; Pfc. Paul Walker, now in Germany; and Asa Maples Reece, veteran's hos pital, Johnson City, Tenn., who has recently received a medical dis charge. They have eight great grandchildren. Miss Abbie Faye Henry, who is a member of the faculty of the Woman's College of the Univer sity of North Carolina, is spending the Christmas holidays with her parents, Prof, and Mrs. Homer Henry, of Clyde. "Home Of Better Values" Pupils Of Evelyn Craig Dance School Given Christmas Party Miss Evelyn Craig and Miss Pauline Ferguson gave a Christ mas party for the pupils of the Evelyn Craig School of the Dance on Saturday afternoon. The affair was held in the school studio. Games and dancing featured the afternoon's entertainment. A Christmas tree, with a gift for every child and refreshments cos ed the party. Among those present were: Patsy Sims, Maxine Sims, Patsy Reeves, June Hundley, Mary Chase Hall, Margaret Reece, Linda Welch, Mildred Medford, Clara Sue Shuler, Johnny Heinz, Anne Heinz, Susie Swanger, Bette Hannah, Evelyn Ferguson, Betty Felmet and Linda Burns. Methodist Group Entertains With Reception For Rev, and Mrs. West The Woman's Society of Chris tian Service of the First Methodist Church entertained with a recep tion last evening in the church din ing room. The affair was given as a courtesy to Rev. Walter B. West, former pastor of the church and newly appointed superintendent of the Waynesville District, and Mrs. West. Mrs. J. Harden Howell and Jonathan Woody welcomed the guests at the entrance. The re ceiving line was composed of Mr. and Mrs. Nobel Garrett, the latter retiring president of the Society, Mrs. Bonner Ray, incoming presi dent, Rev. and Mrs. Walter B. West, Rev. and Mrs. J. Clay Madi son, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Parkman, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Massie, Mrs. Rufus Siler, Mrs. Fred Martin and J. R. Boyd. Mrs. Guy Massie presided at the tea table and was assisted by Mrs. S- H. Bushnell and Mrs. James M. Long. Christmas decorations were used in the room and were noted in all the appointments. The hours were from 8 to 9:30 and a large number of the members of the church at tended the affair. Miss Carmen Plott, who holds a government position in Washing ton, D. C-, spent the Christmas holi days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Plott.
