RESTORES TO BRITAIN COPY OF MAGNA CARTA WASHINGTON One of four copies of the 730-year-old Magna Carta, held for safekeeping during the war by the United States Library of Congress, was returned to Great Britian recently. The document was signed by King John of F-ngland in 1215 as a voluntary relinquishment of most of his powers. Brought to the United States In 1939 for the New York World's Fair and kept here when the war started, the Lincoln Cathedral copy of the manuscript was handed back to British Minister John Bal four recently by Dr. Luther H. Evans, Librarian of Congress. Accepting the document, Mr. Balfour commented that the great charter was the forefather of both the American and British bill of rights, the British habeas corpus act and the American Declaration of Independence. 1 The charter, set between two pieces of armor nlateelass. will re turn to England in a zinc-lined box. .
