Action in the tour ney, which will be staged at the spacious Enka gym, will get under way on Wednesday afternoon, March 6 and continue for four days. Thirteen boys teams and twelve girls teams from . high schools in Buncombe, Haywood and Hender son counties are entered in the new sports event at the huge rayon producing plant. The strongest teams from sections in which the majority of Enka's nearly 5,000 em ployees reside were picked for the oage meet. Nine flrst-round games will open the tourney on Wednesday at one o'clook. 'Eight quarter-Anal con tests will be reeled off Thursday starting at two o'clock. The semi finals will be played on Friday night beginning at seven o'clock and the finals on Saturday will commence at seven. Following the presentation of awards to the cham pionship teams on Saturday night, the company is sponsoring a square dance in the gym for all. Gold trophies will be awarded the championship girls and boys teams. Silver trophies will go to the second-place teams in both di visions and miniature basketballs will be presented to members of thes four high ranking aggrega tions. The committee directing the tournament is composed of: Zeno Wall, Jr., Wilson Ayers, Robert B. Justice. Fred H. Plott and Guy A. Connelly. Tournament referees will be Mitchell Gaddy, N. L. Lovingood, Tommy Tweed, Landry Thrash, Dick Gudger and Vincent Cooper. , Both boys and girls teams have been entered from the following schools: Black Mountain, Bethel, son; Cowan 4, Bradley 2. Po. MARGARET WARREN Funeral services were conduct ed at Long's Chapel Methodist Church in 'Henson Cove, on Sun duy aiternoon at 2:00 o'clock for Mrs. Margaret Wairen. 79, who died at her home in the Bethel section of the county on Friday after a long Illness. Burial wqs in the church cemetery. Surviving are one son, R. G. Pressley, and one daughter, Miss Velda Warren, both of Hayveod County and six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Wells Funeral Home of Canton, was In charge of the arrangements. MRS. E. F. BARRETT Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Har mony Plains Methodist Church near Canton for Mrs. E. F. Barrett, 86, native of Buncombe County, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Allie Walker, in Spartanburg, S. C, where she was making her home. The Rev. E. II. Pless and the Rev. Wayne Smith officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Lottie Bailey, of Franklin, Mrs. Lucy Truitt, of Andrews, Mrs. Clara Truitt, of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. Walker. MOOKE INFANT Graveside rites were held at the Arrington cemetery on the Balsam Road at 2 o'clock Tuesday after noon for the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Moore, who died Monday at the Haywood County Hospital. Rev. l!ou.toii Rich officiated. Surviving in addition to the par ents, are three brothers: Oliver, Monroe and Wayne Moore; two sisters, Barbara and Mary. Crawford funeral home was in charge of the arrangements. Former Haywood Veteran Starts Business In California Floyd Mathis. native of Haywood county, who was discharged from the service in September. 194.r, after twenty-nine months of over seas duty, is at present located in Baldwin Park, Calif. Under the GI bill of rights, Mr. Mathis has opened a business of his own, a laundry, and in a short time he has built up a profitable business.
