VEGETABLES
The Department of Agriculture
predicts that there will be ulentv
of vegetables next year and that
prices will be lower, in spite of
continued high employment and
wages. Supplies of canned and froz
en vegetables between now and
the 1947 processing season will
probably set a new record, accord
ing to the Department.
TERMINAL LEAVE PAY
Government machinery has shift
ed to high gear and is now pour
ing out some $2,700,000,000 in ter
minal leave payments to veterans
of World War II. An estimated 15,-
000,000 veterans are eligible to re
ceive these payments.
WHEAT
This year's world wheat croo will
be the largest since 1942, according
to the Department of Agriculture,
and will be the means of further
easing the fears of another mass
famine this winter and next spring.
World production is estimated at
about 5.875,000,000 compared with
only 5,150,000,000 last year. This
compares with a pre-war average
of 5,914,000,000 bushels.

BIBLES
About 1,000,000 Bibles, left from
the 11,000,000 purchased by the

pocket size, are of different ver
sions, some King James, some Dou
ay and others prepared for men of
Jewish faith.
CHILE
Five American battleships, in
cluding the Battleship Wisconsin,
will be sent to Chile to represent
the United States Government at
the inauguration of President-elect
Gonzales Videla, on Nov. 4-5. Be
sides the 45,000-ton Wisconsin, the
task force will include the 27,000
ton carrier Leyte and three des
troyers, the Massey, W. 11. Fox
and Joseph P. Kennedy.
