They were the guests of Mrs. Rainer s brother Rayirond Howell in Orlando and her sister, Mrs. Opal McLin in Miami. Mr. Rainer took a fishing trip to The Keys while in Miami. Miss Carolyn Elizabeth Evans to John Howell Kennedy, of Houston, Tex., son of Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Kennedy of Jonathan Creek. The wedding Is scheduled ' to take place at the First Methodist Church in West Palm Beach on Thursday, March 27th. Miss Evans was graduated from Palm Beach high school in 1939 ; and attended the Florida State ' College for Women and the Bowl- ' ing Green Business University. . bowline Green Ky. Mr. Kennedy was graduated from North Carolina State College and served as a major with the Ord nance department in the Pacific theater during World War II. Barbara Jean Davis Entertains Junior Music Club Friday The Waynesville Music Club held the March meeting on Friday af ternoon with Barbara Jean Davis at her home in Hazelwood. Miss Stephanie Moore, adult leader of the club directed the program. During the business session each member gave a penny toward the Edgar Stillman Kelly Scholarship fund. Lou Gerrlnger gave the chapter on Famous American composers which the club is studying, which was on Charles Wakefield Cadman. The following numbers were giv en on the program: Vocal solo, "I Would Be True", by Doris Ann Ensley; duet, "When I Kneel Down to Pray", Florrie Patrick and Mar tha Maye; vocal duet, "The Bells of St. Mary s", by Mary Caroline Love and Patsy Blalock; vocal solo, "Dawn and Dusk", by Juanita Kel ley; vocal solo, "Jeanie With the Light Brown Hair", by Barbara Davis. Piano solo, "Drean of Love," by Licsberstraum, played by Eileen Gerringer; piano solo. "Evening Song," played by Mary Lou Ger ringer. The meeting closed with the assembly singing of "The Star Spangled Banner". During the social hour the host ess assisted by her mother served refreshments. Mrs. Frances Gilbert Frazier, of the Staff of The Mountaineer, leaves Monday for a week's visit with friends in Atlanta. Mrs. Robert H. Breece has re turned from Jacksonville, Fla. where she has been th guest of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. William Clark. To Do Our Part Because the Federal Appropriation for School Lunches was not large enough to meet the large demand during the present school term, many of the students from poorer families, who have been getting a well-balanced, hot meal each day free will have to be "cut off the list," and only those who can pay the full cost of the meal will receive one. School authorities are requesting public support for this worthy program. FEEE Lunches To Needy School Children HUB'S Hub's Taxi, beginning next week, will turn over to a public fund for the School Lunch program 10 Per Cent of its net income between now and ' the end of the school term. Nix was hostess of the Morning Star Home Demonstra tion club at her home on Monday afternoon, with Mrs. L. J. Cannon, presiding in the absence of the president. The monthly demonstra tion on the preparation of Vitamin C foods was Ricn by Miss Mary Margaret Smith, home agent. During Hie business session re ports were given by the following project leaders: Foods, Mrs. W. F. Nix; Gardens, Mrs. Paul Hyatt: Poultry, Miss Wil lie Smalhers; Food Preservation, Mrs. W. ,1. Muse; Home manage ment, Mrs. L. J. Cannon; Family Life, Mrs. Moody Hyatt; Crafts, Mrs. M. B. Slamey. During the social Mrs. Moody Hyatt was in charge of the recre ational feature of the progiam. The hostess was assisted in serv ing congealed fruit salad, waters and hot chocolate by her daughter, Mrs. Crisp Brown. New Decorations For Walls, Stage At Park Theater The Park Theater is being com pletely repainted and decorated in side. Painters have been working for the past two weeks in the audi torium, giving the walls a stippled tone finish with matching designs in balcony walls and panels. All woodword has been relinished. Stage curtains iiave been taken down and are being dry cleaned. It is impossible to buy new stage draperies at this time, states J. K. Massie, theater owner, but new curtains and other equipment will be added as soon as it becomes available. New "rainbow effect" lighting fixtures have been ordered for the auditorium and balconies, to be in stalled within the next two weeks. The neon marquee on the front will be completely overhauled at an early date, reports Mr. Massie. Engagement of Leatherwood And Porter Is Announced The engagement of Mrs. Harriett Chambers Leatherwood to William James Porter has been announced. The date of the wedding will be given at a later date. Mrs. Leathorwood is the daugh ter of Mr, and Mrs. C. C. Cham bers of Clyde. Mr. Porter is the son of J. A. Porter of Fuquay Springs and Mrs. Myra Porter of Asheville. The bridegroom-elect is a veter an of World War II, and spent some time in the Pacific theater.
