Home , Club Meets BEAUTIES AT THE FLOWER SHOW The Crabtree and Hyder Moun tain Home Demonstration clubs held a joint meeting at the Crab- tree school house on Friday after noon, with Mrs, Way Messer, presi dent, presiding. The monthly demonstration was given by Miss Mary Margaret Smith, county home agent, who showed the club members how to prepare potatoes creole, and dis cussed at length the vegetables containing Vitamin C foods, which should be included in eviry gar den this spring. Project leaders who gave reports and told of the activities of their groups were: Foods, Mrs. Way Mes ser; Food Preservation, Mrs. Gay Branshaw; Family Life, Mrs. W. V. Mrs. Bert Cagle, past president, presided in the absence of Mrs. Charlie Terrell, president. Project leaders giving reports included: Family Life, Mrs. Claude Church: Food Preservation, Mrs. Ray Dietz; Gardens, Mrs. Welch Singleton; Poultry, Mrs. C. E. Mainous; Clothing, Mrs. W. P. Whitesides; Foods, Mrs. Kayden West; Home Management, Mrs. Bert Cagle. Miss Mary Margaert Smith spoke on "Grow Your Vitamin C Foods," and discussed the importance of in cluding these in the spring gar dens. She also demonstrated prep aration of certain Vitamin C. foods. Mrs. Will Trull reported on two books she had read since the last! meeting, "Blue Ridge Breezes," by Roland and "The Yearling," by Rawlings. During the recreation period Mrs. Welch Singleton distributed crepe paper and other materials and conducted a contest on making Easter hats. Mrs. Will Trull and Mrs. C. F. Christopher tied in the contest. During the social hour the host esses served pound cake, coffee and mints. Mrs. W. T. Crawford had as her guests during the week, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Foltz, of Milwaukee, Wis. Mrs. Foltz is the former Miss Helen Inez Crawford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hillary Crawford, of San Francisco, Calif., and grand daughter of Mrs. W. T. Crawford. She and her husband were en route to Washington, D. C, where the latter will take a special course given to the U. S. Naval Reserves. Mr. Foltz served as Lt. (jg) in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Miss Ann Osborne, who has com pleted her work at the University of North Carolina, and will receive her diploma at commencement in June, has arrived to join her family here. Ray s Shoe Dept, Rector's Guild Holds Kitchen Shower Tonight The Hector's Guild of Grace Episcopal church will meet this evening at 8:00 o'clock with Mrs. E. J. Lilius at her home. Mrs. R. R. Campbell, president of the group, will preside. In connection with the regular meeting of the Guild a kitchen shower for the benefit of the Parish house will be held during the even ing. All members arc urged to at tend and make a contribution to this cause. Miss Edith Camp Receives At Tea Given In Raleigh Miss Edith Camp, president of a Meredith college campus organiza tion, received guests at a tea for the Raleigh senior high school girls, which was given at the col lege last week by the Silver Shield Honorary Leadership Society. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Moss, Jr., for merly of Talledcga. Ala., will ar rive this week to visit the latter's sisters, Mrs. Carl Medford, Mrs. Will Medford. Mrs. Thomas Rog ers and Mrs. James Wells. Mr. and Mrs. Moss will go from here to New York, where they will fly to Buenos Ayres. where they will re side in the future. State Tobacco Averages $49.01 RALEIGH (AP North Caro lina tobacco farmers received an average $49.01 for every 100 pounds of their tobacco and sold more than one-billion pounds during the 1946-47 sales season. W. P. Hedrick, tobacco market ing specialist for the North Caro lina Department of Agriculture, re ported that the 49-dollar average was $8.50 higher than the tobacco brought the previous season. The Border Belt averaged $51.81. The Eastern Carolina Belt averag ed $52.68, while the middle belt averaged $47.20. The Old Belt aver aged $44.16. The Burley tobacco markets of Asheville and Boone sold 11,902,988 pounds for an average of $41.26 a hundred pounds.- The U. S. War Department's Pentagon Building in Washington provides three times as much working space as the Empire State Building in New York and 50 per cent, greater space than Chicago's Merchandise Mart.
