County 4-H Club
Achievement Day
Set January 27
The Haywood County 4-H Club
Achievement Day program will be
held Thursday. January 27. start
ing at 10 3D o clock in the court
house. Wayne Corpening. county-
agent, reported this morning.
Judge Allen H. Gwyn of Reids
ville will be principal speaker for
the annual event.
Judge Gwy n is a renowned work
er with the youth of North Caro
lina, especially among 4-H Clubs
throughout the state. He recently
proposed a plan for the city of
Greensboro in which citizens who
volunteer would be used as advisers
to teen-age youths who have made
mistakes and are placed on proba
tion.
The proposal came after Judge
Gwyn ran into difficulty in finding
advisers for sonic youths found
guilty in Guilford County Superior
Court of criminal charges.
It would call for a filing system
id citizens interests in helping
guide such youths. They would re
ceive instructions from the State
Probation Department, and would
augment the probation system.
