Community Cage
Tournament
Thirty-eight teams will open
play Monday night for the first
Haywood County Community De
velopment Program basketball
championships.
Besides the boys and girls'
championship trophies, there will
be three team sportsmanship a
wards to shoot for honors which
are rated equal or even higher in
meir classes than tne title prizes.
' The community teams are wind
ing up their practice games this
week and, if the tournament con
tests are anything like the engage
ments that they have been playing
since October, this first annual
event will be a dog-fight from the
first rounds to the finals at Waynes'
ville Township High School, r
Officially, the race for the cham
pionships Is wide open. There are
no seedings. . . . ?. y ,;vi
But from the season's records,
the Center Pigeon, and Iron Duff
boys, and the Cruso and Center
Pigeon girls will be among the
most dangerous contenders.:
The 38 teams will play in three
divisions, depending on where their
home communities are located, as
follows:
Metal Jawbone Replaces
One Lost By Cancer
CHICAGO (UP--A metal jaw
has been used to replace a lower
jawbone removed from a patient
because of cancer.
Dr. Arthur E. Smith, Los An
geles dentist, described the opera
tion at a meeting of the Chicago
Dental Society.
He said the metal Jaw was non
Irritating and could be "designed
for each patient according to ac
curate measurements of the jaw."
The patient has movement of
the Jaw with his own muscles,
which have been sewed to the met
allic jaw, he said..

The Fines Creek tournament
will open at 7:30 P. M., with the
" Upper Crabtree girls squaring off
against the Fines Creek sextet.

But in the Fines Creek and Way
nesville sections, only four games
are scheduled, since most of the
communities drew first-round byes.
In the Fines Creek section, the
only other games set for Monday
night will have the Upper cran-
tree and Fines Creek boys meeting
at 8:30 P. M. following the contest
between the girls' teams of the two
communities.
In the Waynesville section, tne
Saunook boys will meet the Rat-
cliffe Cove quintet In the second
and final game f the opening
night. ,

Shown at right is a picture of Haywood County Hospital, built in the latter
part of 1927, it was officially opened in March 1928. At present it has a capa
city of 75 beds. On October 1st, an election vote was passed to enlarge the
Hospital with a new wing, adding another 50 beds. Architects Plans are ex
pected to be completed within the next sixty days with actual building to
begin about July 4th.
