Tea At St. John's
Is Attended By
Large Crowd
Around one hundred guests at
tended the tea given by the facul
ty and students of St. John's
School, in the high school auditor
ium Sunday afternoon.
The school colors, green and
gold, were noted in decorating and
an informal program was present
ed by the students for the enter
tainment of the guests.
Students from both the junior
and senior high schools participat
ed -in a spelling match in which
words ami winning medals were
provided by the Merriam-Webster
Dlstionary Company. Junior high
winners were Sonya Hagna. gold
medal; Jenny Van de Water, sec
ond place and silver medal winner;
and Tommy Lane, third place and
bronze medal winner.
In tho senior high match Bette
Hannah won the gold medal, Laura
Van de Vater won the silver med
al, and Frosty Lane the bronze
medal.
Other numbers included a circus
presented by the children of the
kindergarten and two skits by the
high school group.
Miss Bette Hannah played a
piano solo and a quatet composed
of Mary Gunn, Charlene Duckett,
Alice Alexander, and Patricia
Reeves, sang a group of numbers.
Tea was served following the
program with Mrs. Hallett Ward
and Mrs. William Hannah presid
ing at the tea table. The green and
gold motif was noted in the re
freshments and the table was cen
tered with a bowl of jonquils
flanked by yellow and green can-

Sees Operetta At
E. Waynesville
Aromid 450 people attended the
operetta, "Molly Be Uood," pre
sented at the East Waynesville
School las Friday night.
The porduction was directed by
Mrs. C. W. Senile with the assist
ance of members of the school, fa
culty, Proceeds from the event
will o to the fund fur a new piano
for the school. ,
The main characters were played
by Gail YVoodard, T. L. Francis,
Judy Thomas, Gail CanUin, Doug
las' Moore, Salinda Dicus, George
Mitchell, Arby Jo Jones," Linda
Boone, Bruce Clark, Mac Ratcliffe,
Nancy Underwood, Mike Leather
wood, and Woodrow Davis.
In addition to this group around
seventy-five additional pupils were
cast as band' members, fairies,
clowns, animals, and chorus mem

Masquerade
Originality and talent were
shown at the Masquerade party
sponsored by the Tally-Ho Club of
the Wayntsville High School at
the Armory Friday night.
Among the guests were "Dag
wood and Blondie," "Amos and
Andy" with the "Kingnsh" and
their chums, a couple of convicts,
a band of gypsies, the Dillingor
gang with Tommy Norris as Dil
linger, find a number of rabbits,
cowboys, and pirates.
Ann Coman Crawford as "Rita
Hayworth" and J. D. Stanley as a
circus c!own were awarded the
prizes for the best costumes.
Malcolm Williamson served - as
master of ceremonies and Intro
duced the guests as they paraded
across the stage.
A floor show featured Bette Han
nah as "Hildegardei" singing , her
theme song, "Darling, Je Vous
Aime Beaucoup," Patsy Ezell as
Fred Astaire with Kathleen Cal
houn as Ginger Rogers in a dance
number; and Joan Morris as Al
Jolson in a pantomime with a' re
cording of Jolson singing "Swa

boro has been named on the Dean's
List at Woman' College of the
University of North Carolina for
the winter quarter. Mrs. Riley's
