Symphony To Appear In Asheville EUGENE McLEMORE, a mem ber of the Spring Hill Baptist church won the young peoples' Better Speaker's tournament . at Spruce Pine last Friday night. He used as his subject, "Is Soul Winning Every Christian's Job?" He will represent the region at the state tournament at Fruit- land in June. Eugene was recent ly featured as the "Student of the Week" from Bethel. Saturday Will Be Poppy Day i j Citizens of this community as well as millions of Americans a j cross the nation will wear bright red poppies on Saturday, May 13, i to honor the memory of America's war dead in two world wars. Women of the American Legion Auxiliary, headed by Mrs. Howell Crawford, will sell poppies on the streets of Hazelwood and Waynes- vllle and during the entire, day Contributions will go entirely into the rehabilitation and child welfare funds of the Legion and Auxiliary. Employment for thousands of disabled veterans confined to hos pitals or unable to do other work. has been provided by the Auxili ary's poppy-making program. The work has given these men the en couraging experience of earning money again and has filled empty hospital days with Interesting, beneficial activity.
