ond Class James R. Smith of Haz-
elwood is serving aboard the sub
marine Catfish, now based at San
Diego, California. 1
The Ha7elwood boy, son of Mr.
and Mrs, William L. Smith of 104
Church Street, was inducted into
the Navy in 1942.
His vessel is one ot several ships
used in daily operations in south
ern California waters for training
the Navy's anti-submarine units.
Special Girl Scout
Film To Be Shown Here
A special film, "Women of To
morrow" a 20-minute feature, pro
duced especially for Girl Scouts
will be shown at the Waynesville
Drive-In Theatre on Monday and
Tuesday.
The management is inviting all
Girl Scouts in the section to see
the special feature.

Exhibit May 25-28
First annual Regional Exhibit of
Fine Arts and Hand Crafts will be
held at Cherokee May 25 through
May 28 under the sponsorship of
the Cherokee Indian Agency.
Mrs. Joe Jennings of the Agency.
In her announcement today, said:
The sponsors very much hope
that the show will be a time for co
operation and getting together of
all those in neighboring communi
ties who are interested in painting
and drawing in all forms and media
and in all types of handicrafts."
She explained that several per
sons from each town will be asked
to serve as a committee to Interest
people in their communities in
entering their work in the exhibit.
The exhibit hall will be open all
Jay on Tuesday to receive the en

The exhibit Is for everyone
amateurs as well as professionals,
children as well as adults.

High School presented their pity,
"Ramshackle Inn." before a capa
city crowd in the High School
Auditoiium, Friday night.
The play, a three-act mystery,
took place in an old Iun in Massa
chusetts.

C, June 4-9.
This is the eleventh annual ses
sion Lat vears delegates were

To be eligible, the girls must
be a Junior in high school and have
th. following qualifications; lead
ership, character, courage, honesty,
scholarship, cooperativeness, and
physical fitness.
The features of this years pro
pram are; daily resume of World
Events, Reveille and Retreat,
Moving Pictures, dormitory parties,
a Banquet honoring the Governor
of Girls State, concert entertain
ment, one day in Haieign, a piay
day. and a swim meet.
This program is a part of the Na
tional program of the American
Leeion Auxiliary, and about two
hundred and twenty-five North
Carolina Girls will attend.
