The contest is open to students in the county or town schools and entries will be accepted from anyone in the fourth grade up. There are no restric tions as to the length and essays will be judged according to age and grade. Method of treatment, length, and subject approach are up to the student and any phase of the Cherokee is acceptable, whether it be history, legends, present life, arts and crafts or games. The deadline for all en tries is July 15th. Prizes, of tickets to "Unto these Hills," donated by Carl Sink, pub- Hetty director, will be awarded the five highest winners with the First Priz,e as 5 tickets; Second Prize four tickets; and so on down to fifth place. In the rest of the county, Includ ing the towns of Clyde and Hazel wood, 171 retail stores were operat ing that year, and these showed receipts and sales totalling $3,018, 000. In the wholesale trade, Canton had five firms which did a combin ed business of $1,584,000. The re,st of the county had 14 firms in this category which did a combined business of $4,458,000. Canton also had 36 firms In the selected service trades whose com bined receipts reached $303,000. Waynesville had 23, which showed a total $355,000, while there were 24 such firms in the rest of the county which had a total $102,000 In sales and receipts.
