plans for a membership drive, road
beautification, and spring cleanup
campaigns. .

committees to push the work on the
various projects.
At the same time, the chairmen

ed progress being made on the erec
tion of road signs, building of mall
boxes, and other community pro

CARBONDALE, 111. (UP) Two
amateur diggers have uncovered
rare archaeological find, including
11 Hopewell Indian skeletons, 1,000
years old, in a mound near the
Wabash River.
The mound was found by Arkell
Fischer, Carml, 111., ; high school
athletic, director, and Norbcrt
Bingman, Carmi merchant.
They turned the discovery over
to Southern Illinois University,
Irvin Peithman, archaeology
